Murder of 79-year-old woman in Aomori may be connected to earlier murder

A 79-year-old woman was found murdered Tuesday in Aomori City, the second such murder in the area this month.

According to police, the body of Kazuko Koyama, a grocery store manager, was found in her store/home in Kitakanazawa 2-chome on Tuesday morning, Fuji TV reported. Police said she had been strangled with a scarf and had also been stabbed several times.

Koyama’s husband was deceased and the 79-year-old was living by herself while managing the grocery store. A neighbor recalled how she would always open her store at 6 a.m. to sell fruits and vegetables. She was last seen alive on the afternoon of June 14. A friend, concerned that he hadn’t heard from Koyama, found her body at around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The back door to her her store was unlocked.

On June 12, the body of Noriko Kikuchi, 67, was found by her daughter in her home, which is 100 meters away from the Koyama’s store. Kikuchi had been choked to death.

Police believe the same person may be responsible for both murders.

This is heartbreaking!

Poor widow. At 79 still working ! Too bad that your life was ended in such a cruel manner. May your soul rest in peace. I can really visualize such old hardworking kind and polite Japanese women living in the country side.
