Murdered schoolboy's last act was to save female companion

A police investigation into the fatal stabbing of a Kobe high school student on Sunday has revealed that his last act was to try to protect his female companion. Police said Monday that Shota Tsutsumi, 16, a second grade high school student, told the girl to escape seconds before being stabbed to death in the street.

According to police, when the girl returned to the scene shortly afterward, she found Tsutsumi bleeding on the ground roughly 70 meters away. The girl claimed the assailant was unknown to her, investigators said. Police are currently hunting for the man, said to be in his 20s, on suspicion of murder.

Hearing a lot of bad things on the ground in Kobe of late about beatings and some nasty people getting around. It is becoming a dodgy place. Poor young fella.

Poor kid, and lucky girl. I hope they catch the villain in this piece, but it doesn't sound like they have a lot to go on.

According to who exactly? The girl? What if, and this is a big what if... she murdered him and is just making up the hero story?

Whatever the case, sad loss of a very young man. RIP.

Sadly, I would not be suprised. RIP young man.

i am proud of his brave heart, however, the girl is actually still in junior high school, and this incident happened at around 11pm and i would not let my girl hang out outside with no adult supervision that late at night with a boyfriend... but who knows, she might have ran outside from window, parents might been asleep already... i am just sad.

this boy actually followed the guy who stabbed him 70 meters and finally couldn't run or walk anymore, a car passing by noticed the boy covered with blood and stopped to call 119.

i just read an article that said that this boy was writing about his girlfriend (the girl he protected) on his blog.. he said that he was very very happy when the girl said she was happy.. i see an innocent love here and i am sad to see this had to end like this.

Seriously? You've been watching too many movies I think.

I think when the truth comes out we will find out that it was a drug deal gone bad and as happens this kid paid the price.

I'm with tokyokawasaki. Even though random stabbings occur here in Japan, this deserves a second look.

A lot of outlandish theories here but yeah seriously, this nation, fiction pales in comparison to the truth.

Could have been a random crime. Another possibility: The 20-something guy was dating the girl before and then was jealous of her new boyfriend. Who knows. RIP to the boy who lost his life.

Like I say there have been a few beatings and some nasty events in Kobe of late, I have had friends assaulted by Yakuza chinpira for sticking up for a girl who THEY assaulted in the first place. They have no fear and will assault anyone. There are a lot of young guys around Kobe at the moment who think they are the big thugs in a movie. This bloke might have said something that one of these wads didn't like...his girl may have said or done something they didn't like..or..he and/or the girl knows the attacker and she is denying it out of fear. I hope the killer is found and punished.

There is no greater love than to lay down ones life for his friends

Hopefully justice will be found by the execution of the murderer.

Oh no! You were doing so well too! Then you messed it all up with the second sentence.

The boy is a hero. real man despite being a teenager.

a brave boy, no doubt from a decent family. A terrible loss, and so needless. RIP young man, you deserved better.

Sad, a noble young man.

There is no justice - if they find the punk (years and years and years later) and they actually manage to convict him - we get to pay for his incarceration either for the rest of his life or at least for the next 10-20 years while he sits on death row. Japan and the USA share similar "civilized" justice systems - civilized for criminals - unjust for we law-abiding taxpayers - for obvious reasons.

Dentshop, there's nothing wrong with what I said. If you murder someone, you deserve to die. This murderer needs to be found, have a swift trial and execute him. My earlier post about him being executed in public was removed for being 'offensive'. Is doing what's right, offensive? A person that has murdered someone has given up their own right to live!

So very sad. However, showing these storys to my wife always quells her desire to move back to Japan.

I agree. This is so sad...what's wrong with people?

Maybe she set him up to get rid of him, and just came back for her alibi. If she'd come back WITH someone, or dialed 110, it might be more believable. Not enough data....

In comparison to the murder rates in the US? Are you serious?

I think it's more likely that they were attacked randomly by a mentally unstable person. He was killed in Kita-ku, which is known -- at least to us, foreigners, in Kobe -- for the crazies. This isn't the first time I've heard and known of people getting randomly attacked there, but it is the first time I've heard of someone getting killed.

RIP Shota Tsutsumi. :(

I'm a foreigner, living in kita-ku, and no it's not usually known for 'crazies'.

By your yardstick how would you rate Miyodani then, after the Jun-kun incident where that kid had his head cut off, or the Shin-Oriental Hotel (now the Crowne Plaza) after a dentist was shot dead by the yakuza by mistake in the coffee shop?

Fenton, she did call 911. Just because it isn't said explicitly in an article on JT doesn't mean she didn't call. All other news outlets have talked about her 911 call.
