Late last month, a 51-year-old resident of Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture, Kazuhiko Shirasaka, allegedly called together a camping party with around 30 other people including 62-year-old Naofumi Katsuragawa who lived in nearby Ikeda town.
The party kicked off on the evening of Sept 28 and would run into the next day. Those in attendance were indulging in marijuana both by smoking as well as by battering and frying it into crispy cannabis tempura.
Either there was large amount of smoking going on or the ragtime was a little too loud as someone sent in a report to the police of a “marijuana party in progress at the campsite.”
Police arrived on the scene and arrested Shirasaka and Katsuragawa for violating the Cannabis Control Act along with 40-year-old Takao Iwasaki of Aichi Prefecture.
Shirasaka and Iwasaki both face charges of possession of a controlled substance while Katsuragawa is also accused of growing 97 cannabis plants at his home.

Gotta agree with Taj. Note the age group. They are all long-lived hippies from the 70's. But, it also shows that pot is much more popular in Japan than authorities and the Gov would like to admit.

@combinibento--This is absolutely true. I have overheard my neighbors talking about me and things they checked at my place of work, and heard them from my very own yard while just going about my business. And they did not even have the courtesy to refer to me by name but just call me "gaijin". Neighbors here are more like spies. Snitch is not a bad word here.
And I hope the snitch in this story gets thoroughly scrutinized as so often happens in Japan. May the cops turn his life upside-down for his big mouth ratting out people doing no harm to anyone.

Pathetic japanese police. This is the extent of their capabilities. They're no where to be found during REAL crimes as murder, rape, burglary.....basically when you need them the most.
