A 37-year-old man was arrested under the Cannabis Control Law on Monday, accused of growing marijuana plants on the roof of a branch of a cram school in KitaNagoya City, police said Tuesday.
Kazuomi Fujiwara, instructor and manager of the Nishiharu branch of the Nodajuku cram school chain, is accused of growing six plants in a suitcase found on the rooftop of the school. Police searched the school on Monday after receiving an anonymous tip-off that Fujiwara was growing marijuana plants.
Fujiwara has admitted to the allegation, saying that the marijuana was for personal use and he started growing it hydroponically on the roof in summer last year. He said that the door to the roof had a lock and that students could not access it. He also told police he had been smoking marijuana since he was in high school.
The Nodajuku cram school chain is well-known in Aichi Prefecture, having 53 schools there. The Nishiharu branch has 130 students, ranging in age from fourth-grade elementary school to third-year junior high.

Quantity? Market value? Must be expensive, Home grown therefore High Quality.

Sounds like a pretty cool cram teacher - probably made him relaxed. I wonder what his student pass rate was? Probably better than some cigarette-beer swilling oji san.

Great to see another dope fiend taken off the streets of Japan.

Wasted energies on a relatively harmless substance. I remember how everybody hated the high school NARC. Both the people who smoked and did not smoke hated the narc. RomeoRamenII, were you the narc?

I don't use drugs or drink alcohol but I do however use common sense. The number of OD's from marijuana remains steady year after year throughout the world at zero. Common sense will tell you it is a matter of one sector of society trying to control others. Control Freaks!
I feel sorry for Kazuomi Fujiwara. He was robbing the mob of their profits by growing his own.

Whaaat? I'm confused. Why was he growing it in a suitcase?
ca1ic0cat
Yeah, I would hope the suitcase was being used, open, as a planter. I don't know how the plants would get any light otherwise.
Kinda stupid though. Too easy to get caught.
usaexpat
He was going green, must have purchased a book on urban gardens and decided to grow his favorite crop.
Fadamor
While it's true that no one ever OD'd on marijuana, it's also true that no one who's stoned has ever performed their duties with due diligence.
nath
Fadamor: The same holds true for Alcohol and you see drunk business men all over the streets of Tokyo on Thursday Nights - well OK, not all over - but you know what I mean.
Fadamor
I'll have to take exception to your assertation that no one has OD'd on alcohol. Don't tell me you haven't heard of death by alcohol poisoning?
ivanpaparaka
no wonder why the children are so quiet :D
nath
fadmar: That's obvious, do I really need to point that out? Now don't side-step my comment. Marajuana and Alcohol both impair - would you agree then that Alcohol, like Marajuana, be banned?
