One man was killed and another injured in Nagoya early Wednesday morning, following what an eyewitness described as a street brawl, police said.

Police said they received an emergency call at around 12:40 a.m. in which the caller said four or five men were fighting with what looked like replica wooden swords in the street in Naka Ward. When police arrived at the scene, they found one man lying unconscious and bleeding and another man bleeding from the head.

Both men were taken to hospital where the first man was found to have sustained serious injuries but is in a stable condition. The second man died due to loss of blood about 90 minutes after arrival at hospital.

The deceased man was aged between 25 and 30 years of age and had sustained stab wounds to his head consistent with a knife attack, according to police. Police have not yet released the names of the two men and are currently searching for the others who they believe were involved in the fracas.

I always thought that Nagoya people are really strange and so very weird. I guess this article only makes what I think to become more of a reality that what it truly is.

What part of Nagoya was this in? Again JT fails to give us the full details of the story.

Moderator: Naka Ward.

It says Naka Ward. Again, a reader fails to read the article properly and blames JT for not telling them information that was already there.

Miyamoto Musashi won most of his fights with wooden swords.

Agree sounds like a Yakuza disagreement.

Replica wooden swords? Replica ? No street fighter with any credibility would use them - I've seen 4-year-olds walking around matsuri holding them!

It was in Sakae to be exactly! My co-worker who's a security at my club saw everything, he's a big guy and almost went to help but my other co-workers advised him not to interfeer on their business otherwise he would be the next, people were saying there were some Chinese and the yakuza is involved too...my friend told me a police officer got there on time and caught one of the murderers still stabbing a guy who was already dead on the street...my work place is like in the movies!

"Replica wooden swords" makes no sense - a replica of what? - ancient wooden swords? They were most likely using kendo wooden swords, which can still do immense damage. I know: my wife practices kendo.

I think it more likely wooden katana(practice sword), etc.

They are often used in Aikido, etc too, plus many Yakuza are known to have those handy for fights.

Those can do some serious damage, more than a kendo sword.

Sakae can be a tough place after the last trains. It's a totally different place at that time. Different crowd too.

I have no idea where Naka ward is in Nagoya, but I guess it must be a bad, rough area, where scum yakuza like this go out get drunk and start fights, sorry for assuming these are scum yakuza, maybe they are just scummy bosozoku motorcyle gang members with out their bikes?

Only an idiot would part take in a street brawl of a bar fight.

It happens mostly because of the great equalizer, alcohol - it renders all imbibers stupid.

Next to Sakae is Nishiki 3-Chome where most of the adult entertainment is

How does a person die from loss of blood 90 mins after being in the hospital. I guess the Internet connection was too slow and the doctor was unable to google the correct procedure for stopping blood loss???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hmmm... My friends mentioned knives not swords, somebody must have been drinking when watched what happened. Nishiki which is right next to Sakae is a rich area but still not as safe as sakae, a single woman can't walk alone there late in the night without being disturbed by the yakuza. They think they own everywhere.

It happens all the time, everywhere. How else do you think people die from stab wounds around the world?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not sure about Nishiki but I know (from 7 years of experience walking the Sakae streets as an intoxicated weekend warrior) that Sakae is safe place. There are Yankees and cat callers that hang outside Sunshine Sakae and a few tough looking dudes in the hostess areas but beyond that I rarely ever see any street violence (except between gaijin teachers). Krisallenation I am curious what club was this near?

For those who wonder what the fuss is about the weapons, the "replica wooden swords" in question are bokuto, practice swords for aikido and iaido. Bokuto are (usually) crafted from a solid piece of maple, and weilded properly hit harder than a baseball bat. As mentioned above, Musashi fought the majority of his duels using these - against steel swords.
