CaptainPanchira, I lived in Japan for 15 years. A perv on a train is causing plenty of turmoil and should be confronted. The point of my post was that girls and women need to learn it's in their best interest to speak up when assaulted.

masterkun: I don't think police should be taking the attitude of 'let things work themselves out' in cases of groping especially since no one seems to teach young girls that it is NOT okay if someone touches them without their consent. If girls knew that someone will back them up and help them out in these situations they would be much more likely to come forward.

As it stands now, no one takes it very seriously so the message to these girls is--You are not as important as men. You are just around for eye candy and to please men. And if a man touches you, you should just let him cause that's the way it is.

Police officers, and parents & teachers should all be sending the message that this type of behavior is NOT okay.

The police are not judge, jury or executioner. They are just police! What he gets arrested for and what he gets charged for in court are two separate things! Besides, the police do this as a tactic so they can rearrest people on separate charges a few weeks later and keep them locked up indefinitely. If they charged him with everything at once he would be out on bail in three weeks!

Japanese are not the only people who don't start cracking heads when they don't know what is going on. The girl was not complaining, she was not being held down, her mouth was not being covered, she was not fighting him...it might have been difficult for anyone to have any idea what is going on. Even the groper himself noted how docile she was!

Hey that girl did the right thing! Some gropers are clever...the first few times, they might touch just enough to make a girl wonder if someone just bumped into them because the carriage is so crowded. She was brilliant to report it, the police were brilliant to call the railway company who were then brilliant enough to plant a staff member on board to act as a witness and back up both the accusation that she was being groped and to confirm the right guy was nabbed for it.

These cops took the lazy way out by telling the train station staff. They should have just sent a plain-clothes female officer with the girl and after a couple of days...wham! You catch the guy in the act! Pretty easy.

Amazing that anyone is coming down on the cops. They outsourced because their presence at the platform or on the train would have alerted the bloke in question in the way seemingly random train security would not. Since they let him approach the girl again (and I don't think an 11th time was going to break her) there is now an eyewitness who is not a cop. What this equals is an almost air tight case against the man. I would think that is the most desirable outcome for most of you.

But bear in mind, the only hole in the case is that the girl waited so long to complain. There is nothing on Earth the cops can do about that. They got the best result for what they had to work with. If they had just walked on the train and asked "Is this the bloke?", then it would be simply her word against his. You just can't please some people.

This crime was so horrible the girl must have had memory lapses each time, which explains why she never jumped on an earlier train, turned to face the other passengers, or used the women's only train, or any manner of other defensive actions. BUT today, quite a few kniow that this can happen and know what they could do to avoid it. There are a few women groping the little boys too.
