Police in Osaka said Tuesday they have arrested a 20-year-old construction worker for throwing a can of coffee at a patrol car.
According to police, the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Monday. The suspect had been celebrating Coming-of-Age Day, Sports Nippon reported. Police said he was involved in a fight with a friend following the Coming-of-Age ceremony after his friend told him that he had drunk too much.
The two started fighting on the street and when two police cars arrived, the suspect threw a can of coffee at one of them.
Police quoted the suspect, who they said was intoxicated at the time of his arrest, as saying, “Seeing the patrol cars arrive made me angry.”

Rocket fuel stuff that canned coffee. Loads of caffeine and sugar. People should drink in it in moderation.

Coming of age? I'd say about seven.(seeing the police cars made me angry)

Well, hopefully seeing the inside for a cell calmed down this angry feeling he had then. In fact, I hope it turned to downright fear at the realization of how stupid he was, and now that he's legally an adult (not just from the time of the ceremony, of course) he ought to take that a little more seriously.

Drunk and angry for seeing police cars, ok that is really "coming of age" another reason to raise the "coming of age to 21.

There we go. Welcome to adulthood and the long arm of the law. Poor chap probably wants to return to adolescence just about now, given the kid gloves that the fuzz use when handling young reprobates. Then again, it is not everybody who scores a double in one day: a coming of age certificate and a rap sheet!!

If he'd done it one day earlier he would have been dealt with as a juvenile.

The Celebration is for people that turn 20 between April/2014-April/2015.
Actual birthday still counts for being considered an Adult.

Yeah, makes you wonder how JT picks the articles doesn't it? This isn't even local news. More like community gossip... yet here I am commenting on it!

Maybe he was a "new adult" if he couldn't handle his liquor like that.

No need to read further after that. You know it's gonna be pure quality from there.

If it was a friend, why did it end in a fight? What a way to start adulthood, in contempt of the law.

Ha, this comment made my day! I imagined it went down like one of the Boss Coffee ads, where the officer rocks up and it's Tommy Lee Jones, who then uses his laser eye vision to explode the can mid air.

I think he is stil nineteen years old. That's why his name wasn't come out. In a sense, he was lucky. Last chance as a child to do bad things.

Really! Some of these young Japanese punks need to know what it feels like to be punched in the face for being a Richard!

"New Adult".....as opposed to a seasoned adult? Seriously??

Construction workers dress up and participate in "Coming-of-Age" ceremonies? Really? Now I've heard it all!
