Newborn baby girl abandoned in hotel room in Tokyo

A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a hotel room in the entertainment district of Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district in Tokyo on Friday.

According to police, a hotel employee, who had entered the room just after 5 p.m. to begin cleaning, found the infant wrapped in a bedsheet, Fuji TV reported. The hotel immediately contacted police.

The baby was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition, police said Saturday. A hospital spokesperson said the baby had been born a few hours prior to being found.

Police said they are looking for a woman who checked in to the room on Thursday and remained there until check-out time on Friday morning.

Better a hotel room than a toilet. She's guaranteed to be caught though. Glad the baby's doing alright.

Let’s all just be thankful the baby was left somewhere it would be found and it is still alive. It’s a refreshing change from abandoned babies being left on riverbanks or cut in half and stuffed into a toilet.

With as many want to be parents out there willing to bring a baby into their home, why isn't more done to get word to these young confused, and frightened girls. This infant was lucky.

Baby is safe... I do hope mother is also safe.

Here in Japan we don't have sexual education so maybe it's time to start thinking about it!

Well said zichi.

We aren't aware of this Mother's circumstances or how this baby came to be.

Whatever the Mother's life is though. At least this baby girl was left in a warm hotel room and that she didn't suffer a similar fate to that baby girl who was found buried in Minato-ku last week :(

I'm thinking the person who gave birth

had a hard time deciding to leave her baby behind,

but did it, for the welfare of the baby.

She stayed right up until check out time,

and wrapped her in a sheet.

It's very sad, but at least the baby is fine and will have a chance

at life.

It seems a sad commentary to say the baby survived, she's lucky.

A birth should be a joyous occasion.

We don’t know who or why. Could even be a rape victim or underage teenager.

Well said. With all the horrible stories of rape and other violence against women, it's quite possible the mother had been through immense trauma.

Did the mother deliver on her own. Adoption in Japan is difficult and excludes non Japanese.

Are you sure about that? I think mixed couples can adopt? i.e. One Japanese, one non Japanese.

You're correct. There were a series of stories here on JT earlier this year (or maybe last year) by a Canadian lady who had adopted two Japanese children with her Canadian husband.

What a terrible way to begin life. Shame on whoever abandoned this baby.

Sad, but at least the baby is healthy and alive that’s the only thing that matters, the baby can always get a new home and a new life with a family that will love her and protect her, but her birth mother that gave her away, if not now, possibly in the future she will have to face and deal with the reminder of her actions and carry that burden to her grave knowing that she abandoned her own flesh and blood.
