Newborn baby left on Tokyo park bench

Police are examining nearby street surveillance camera footage to try and identify who brought the baby to the park.

I hope that's a wise idea, but I'm not sure. We should be thankful that the baby was found alive, and the circumstances suggest that was the intention of whoever abandoned him. Pursuing the perpetrator may cause others who are considering the same thing to be less public in what they do. Not a nice thought.

I've read that the baby hatch in Kumamoto received 125 babies over nine year until 2015. I've also read that similar facilities across the USA received about 3000 babies over a similar period. However hard it is to understand the idea of abandoning a baby, I think it's better that these babies are in someone else's care.

Don't be too quick to judge. You just don't know somebody's circumstances or state of mind that drives them to do such a thing.

Again- this tears my heart out. My son is getting ready to turn 1. I still cherish the memories and the excitement I felt when I saw him for the first time. It was like nothing I had ever experienced. How can someone just abandon their newborn right away? That is something I will never in my whole life understand- and I'm glad for that.

Baby hatch. We have one in Kumamoto. More are needed for desperate mothers.

wrong wrong wrong.... there is something wrong for this to continually happen. Please form a panel to examine this, I'd gladly give my tax money to some sort of research that determined the causes for this

Luckily the mother wrapped the baby in a towel and left it in an obvious place so lets be too harsh on her. Compared to other stories concerning mothers and babies, this is a good news story.

Glad the baby is still alive. Why does this happen so often in Japan? Is it a lack of support? A lack of morality? A lack of responsibility? What?

I wonder what happens to the child if they never find the parent. Conversely, I wonder what happens if they do.

To answer Disillusioned's question, because mainly of it's culture. Japan has no history of Christianity so suicide is not a sin. So in this case abandoning your child would be the best choice for them/her since financial anxiety and insecurity is well kept within themselves, they can't complain or they wont. There are not so many ways to express anger or frustrations in this country and many young people are moulded in to fit a very small box. So when they think all else fails--some people thinks--you can just kill yourself or your kids or abandon them.

@Giveme_abreak Excellent Point!! Many of the bloggers here are probably from some other world and seem to thing where they come from should be the way one should think. Japan is japan and the Japanese people culture is theirs we can't change the way they think. With that said what works in japan right or wrong may not fly in other parts of the world or vice-versa. People are just different they are shaped by their culture and we have to accept that.

Furious and speechless! As I recall, JT posted a similar news of abandoning a newborn baby last month. I can't figure out why it happened again. Luckily, the baby boy is still breathing and hospitalized. Hopefylly, he'll be alive and kicking in due course.

Suprising even more because that's a pretty affluent area of Tokyo too.

I hate to say this buy I think this is better than the rampant abortion in Japan...
