Newborn girl found abandoned in Chiba parking lot

Thank goodness the baby is alive & well. A second hero story in today’s Crime section. This boy needs a commendation from the local government for not being afraid too speak up. Japan needs more Good Samaritans.

Provide more baby hatches like they have in Kumamoto!

Just a few more steps to the local fire station would have been better than leaving the baby in a parking lot, especially on a hot afternoon like Monday. No firefighter would turn away a newborn. Seeking help is not a crime. Abandoning a child is.

It's not clear from the article, but if the baby was deliberately left in a place where she would be found, I wonder how far the police should pursue this. Tracking down the mother (or whoever abandoned the child) might discourage others in a similar situation from leaving an unwanted baby in a public place. Perhaps a simple public appeal to come forward if help is needed would be enough.

Hopefully a loving family is found for this baby. Even as a single man, I'd take care of the baby rather than see it raised in some orphanage or unloving home.

@snowymountainhell How many times have we read about a child being abandoned in the last month? I can guarantee you that you will get a new story like this one before you get a followup story of the mothers account as to why. I am willing to bet two possibilities of why. 1. part time worker 2. Single mother and I can name others but these are the most underlying reasons I have read in the past here.

Just happy the little one survived and has a second chance at life.

Thankfully this baby survived. Sadly, this baby is better off in a state facility than with a mother who would dump her in a car park.

I realize that laws differ from country to country. However, AFAIK, they all require a victim to have died in order for it to be considered murder.

Please don't! Or, if you do, let it only be to penalize the person who abandoned the child, not to reunite a baby with a mother who will murder it later because she clearly doesn't want it. Thank the gods we are reading about a life this time and not a corpse.

Cops doing their job after the fact staring at a screen - whoopie. This is a tragic incident where the country has failed the child and the mother.

Nothing is clear at the moment regarding the mothers intentions, or what she wants or does'nt want. The only thing that is clear is that the mother is in a disturbed state. I hope that she is identified soon and given the correct psychological attention.
