NHK cameraman in missing housewife case deleted email records

Police said Sunday that the NHK cameraman involved in the disappearance of a housewife in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, deleted his cell phone email records before the suicide attempt that landed him in hospital last week.

The woman left her parents' home on Feb 6, saying she was going out to collect money owed to her by a male acquaintance. When she failed to return, her parents filed a missing persons report on Feb 7.

The man in his 30s, who claimed to have been an acquaintance of the missing woman, was being informally questioned by police. On Friday, he returned to his parents' house and attempted suicide. He survived the attempt, although he was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Police said Sunday that the man has regained consciousness and is now able to nod in answer to questions. They are currently attempting to retrieve data from the man's phone and are eager to hear the reason for the deletion of the email records. The missing woman's cell phone has yet to be found.

TV News implies that she was going to collect money from the cameraman who also has a wife and child(ldren). A love affair that turned into into blackmail? A cameraman so desperate to hide what happened that he killed the woman in question.

Well, no one needs pay NHK fees for another year with this scandal. That's for sure.

USAkuma,

According to more reliable news (not NHK), she and her parents loaned the cameraman several million yen. That's the money she was going to collect, not some fantasy blackmail money.

The vernacular news is calling the cameraman a 'contract cameraman', which I think means he's as much an NHK employee as the lady who delivers the bentos at lunchtime.

The TV this morning was also saying that a great deal of blood matching that of the missing woman has been found in his car.

Wow, stupid criminals learn from other stupid criminals. I wonder if he was a fan of sumo?

They are currently attempting to retrieve data from the man’s phone and are eager to hear the reason for the deletion of the email records.

And the stupid police don't just go and get the records from the cell phone company.

if a person asks you for millions of yen, it is because they dont have it. if they dont have it, they probably can nto pay you back. DUH!

Why is the persons company name always mentioned? Grow up Japan. This crime has nothing to do with NHK whatsoever. NHK is not his parents or his guardian. He is a grown man and acted on his own free will.

Debucho: "if they dont have it, they probably can nto pay you back. DUH!"

How do you think the loan industry and credit-card companies operate? They KNOW people usually can't pay back massive debt quickly, and hence they make all their money. Now, if this woman was silly enough to do it without any kind of contract or guarantees, well, she deserved to lose the money -- but certainly not her life. Naive? perhaps, but still a victim to this murderer.

God forbid law enforcement should spent the 10-15 minutes it takes to to fill out a subpoena to issue to the telephone company and get the emails...

smithinjapan - I am talking about loaning money to acquaintances. This woman obviously has bad judgment lending millions of yen to the person who would eventually murder her. Not real bright but still should not have died for it.

Why would anybody make a special trip to his parents in order to commit suicide there? Despicable in so many ways.

Happened to my neighbours. We lived in a tall building with a hollow middle and....the rest I will leave to your imagination but I heard everything and it was awful.
