Nissan shuts websites after 'anti-whaling' cyberattack

If Anonymous wanted to be useful to humanity they should be hacking ISIL systems and disrupt their use of the internet for logistical and recruitment purposes.

Apparently they have hacked IS systems. (According to some wags, this gives IS a preview of what 72 virgins are really like.)

“Because of a potential distributed denial of service attack, we are temporarily suspending service on our websites to prevent further risks.”

The purpose of a DDoS attack is to make a website inaccessible...so suspending your service seems a little redundant.

It would be like saying that because I had a punctured tire I decided to deflate the tire. Same end result but one maybe makes you feel like you did something.

But Anonymous is not one singular group.

while i dont condone these attacks, the whole purpose is to cause disruption and financial loss. The losses to the J economy and Japans image abroad has caused much more damage than whaling could ever dream of recovering. and all for what, some japanese bureaucrats recalcitrant pride.lets face it in the not too distant future when commercial whaling has been abandoned the Japanese people will look back and see the stupidity of those in power at the time

Unless Nissan directly supports whaling I don't really see why they would hit this particular company. Misdirected anger.

The vast majority of anti-whalers have been brainwashed into thinking that (1)endangered whales are being killed, (2) the moratorium is a permanent ban(3) the IWC exists to protect whales from being killed (4) whales are sentient being that are as intelligent as humans (5) Japan is killing whales in "Australian Waters" . Will these fallacies ever be exposed as the lies that they are when so many including most media sources buy into this lies?

I guess JT is the only source of news for you two? It's fairly well published that Anonymous ARE attacking IS sites, social media accounts etc. Being fairly useful people, they are obviously capable of multi-tasking ;) Btw, what are you both doing to help humanity/stop IS?

Anonymous is and always a terrorist network. It dont care whther its nissan or cup noodles, anything made in japan, they just do it anyway. It can be diversion of what they want to do. Probably siphoned off digital money and stolen confidential data from unsuspected company. Dangerous organization. They are in cohort of with ISIL to create problems for world.

Sorry, Anonymous, but causing economy damages to businesses and organizations that aren't actually involved in the whale trade except by loose association (translate: being Japanese) isn't brave activism. It's racist bullying.

This is on of the fundamental weaknesses of Anonymous. Being a self-professed "loose" affliction of hackers, there are bound to be a few in the bunch who, while well-meaning, aren't too good at doing their homework.

"The road to hell" and "good intentions" are linked together often for a reason.

I agree with Ossan, there are much better targets than Nissan for their "Stop the Killing Now" campaign.
