No protest is coming because it wasn't in any "disputed"waters,
some14some
China may be thinking "Why protest and go on record.." let Japan protest and then release the captain unconditionally :)
nath
I am glad the Capt. is cooperating. Took him 4 1/2 hours to decide to do that.
CrazyJoe
How could the Red Chinese protest? China does not claim territorial rights over the Goto Islands unlike Senkaku.
NetNinja
The calm before the storm perhaps?
kanoe81
China will say nothing. APEC is about to start and their man is in the wrong here.
hatsoff
Elbuda - I think you'll find these maritime professionals feel their radars, sat-nav and charts work better than looking out for a few flashing lightbulbs on an island.
Gurukun
It's okay. It's coming.
Then Japan can gie him back like the last time.

OssanAmerica - Thinking the same thing as you. Japan is wanting them to protest so they can show how scary and aggressive China is against them. A protest might be just around the corner but they might decide just to let this one go.

I doubt he will go to jail or the boat is confiscated. The end result will probably be the captain and crew will be released and sent back to China minus the catch.
paulinusa
I think both sides won't elevate this to level of the last episode and will show restraint.

What shock and disappointment for Japan if China doesn't protest on cue!

Posting this issue as a piece of news seemed pointless. The descriptions provided referred to fishing boat sailed ( not fishing ) past Japanese waters. The only 'crime' reported seemed to be 'not stopping for inspection' -- a storm in s teacup though..
The tone of the report sounded as if the media were trying to 'provoke' reactions from China. Everyone appeared to be rather disappointed that no big issue that is worthwhile to be put on headlines ?
YuriOtani
Giving it some though, this is a STUPID news thread. Seems disappointed there was no trouble.
WilliB
No protest from China yet? What a headline. But not to worry... it will come. Predictably as clockwork.

Let's keep him a few more weeks and see what happens...

china know that is their people fault.

tmtmsnb- Where r u from? how can you criticize our presidential election with such anti- democratic manner? With what point you connect this "fishing boat" issue to our election? I suppose everyone here should respect to each other's motherland.
tmtmsnb
----@ Elbuda Mexicano, owning "these stupid rocks in the water" as its territory entitles China to control Japan sea lane as well as the lands surrounding it, which sounds stupid to you?
Fadamor
It will probably depend on what happens to the Chinese crew. As has been pointed out, so far China really has nothing to protest about because the incursion was in undisputed waters, the captain of the boat failed to heed orders to heave-to, and there's no reports of the crew being mistreated. (BTW, what happened to the other boat? It got away?)
toguro
It's hard for me to imagine that China would just let this go.
kukuchai
do wrong must admit!
combinibento
Aren't there enough fish in the ocean for the Chinese to stay near their own country?
tmtmsnb
It's puppets being elected in coming presidential election in Taiwan is vital to it's seeking hegemony in Pacific. Giving Taiwanese volters the impression of a belligerent neighbor at this stage is bad for the puppets.

HA!!! Another example of Chinese aggression toward Japan!!! It is always like this, they would send so called "fishing boat" into Japanese water, then they would claim the area as "historically Chinese water". We need to lay mines around China, so none of its "finish boats" can get out of their "water"!!! We need to build carriers, so Asian countries can live in peace without being afraid of Chinese "fishing boats"!!!
Elbuda Mexicano
I saw on tv these so called ISLANDS claimed by Japan, just 3 jagged rocks sticking out of the water west of Kyushu, between Japan and South Korea, and this wise guy Chinese dude takes his old junk boat, but Japan just in case they want to PREVENT this kind of mistake, how about putting say some HINOMARUS on this crappy islands/rocks and to be nice enough to also put some LIGHTS on them so say SHIPS will not crash into them hurting or killing INNOCENT people, and I do not care if the people are Japanese, Chinese, Africans, Brazilians but these stupid rocks in the water should have some kind of LIGHTS, FOG lights etc..IMHO.
pawatan
China hasn't had time to organize their government sponsored "grass roots" protestors yet. They will come.
602miko
since when china doing right? they ignore everythings, and they eat anythings ...
