The number of crimes related to the so-called "dangerous drugs" so far this year is five times higher than last year, the National Police Agency said in a report.

According to the NPA report, from Jan 1 to Nov 30, the number of cases involving either the use and or possession of "dangerous drugs" (which refers to quasi-legal hallucinogenic herbs) was 622, NTV reported Friday. Drug-related arrests were 725, the NPA said.

The NPA report also said 111 people died due to drug-related complications or due to to accidents caused by drivers high on the herbs.

National Police Agency Commissioner Tsuyoshi Yoneda told a news conference that police departments across Japan will intensify efforts to prevent the use and further propagation of illegal substances.

I'm curious what the arrests are related to, as the 'dangerous drug' isn't illegal, and is sold in stores. What are they charging the people with?

The NPA report also said 111 people died due to drug-related complications or due to to accidents caused by drivers high on the herbs.

We've heard about the people killed by drivers high on this crap, but why haven't we heard stories of people dying from the 'dangerous drug'?

This article seems a little suspicious. The drug is garbage, and it's stupid to be doing it, but the article seems like propaganda that may be making it appear worse than it actually is.

They realized it years ago. They regularly make new implementations of it illegal - the manufacturers just change the chemical makeup into something new and sell that instead. So you're being unfairly critical.

How about an article which focuses on people hooked on prescription drugs - that would be interesting.

thank you for pointing that out.

they know the pattern right?

some other countries lawmakers have done their work and came up with manuals on the identification of synthetic and established permanent ban NOT a temporary bans.

as a tax payer and a father of tow kids i think that would be fair to ask for.

Any rules they made to cover yet uncreated drugs would catch other legal substances in their net.

That synthetic herb crap is truly a dangerous drug! The only way to wipe it out is to make real hooter more readily available. It might also help take the edge off all these highly strung people that seem to just snap.

Drugs of any kind are bad news , they make people insensitive and lose proper judgement legal or illegal
