The number of crimes related to the so-called "dangerous drugs" so far this year is five times higher than last year, the National Police Agency said in a report.
According to the NPA report, from Jan 1 to Nov 30, the number of cases involving either the use and or possession of "dangerous drugs" (which refers to quasi-legal hallucinogenic herbs) was 622, NTV reported Friday. Drug-related arrests were 725, the NPA said.
The NPA report also said 111 people died due to drug-related complications or due to to accidents caused by drivers high on the herbs.
National Police Agency Commissioner Tsuyoshi Yoneda told a news conference that police departments across Japan will intensify efforts to prevent the use and further propagation of illegal substances.© Japan Today
