I say really stupid things too but honestly chucky3176 that's just plain dumb.

@chucky3176 we're talking about north korea here. an enslaved and brainwashed people, dictated by the world's largest psychotic baby, and equally crazy people before him. Of course they abducted people, with no regrets or seconds thoughts.

I feel bad for the people in NK, but that country should be destroyed. As in,.. structural collapse. Kill off the military leaders and give the people a chance to rise up, like people in other countries have done before them hundreds of years ago.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

One thing I can't understand about these abductions is with the number of North Koreans living in Japan, especially in the Osaka area, why didn't the North Koreans ask them back to teach Japanese and train their spies. These people have lived in Japan for most of their lives, speak the language fluently, know all Japanese customs and history. And at that time, i imagine, things were not so hostile between the two countries, that people may have been able to travel back and forth, or go through China. so why risk kidnapping people hostile to your regime, and force them to teach spies?

@smithinjapan:

Given that a bunch of the 'abducted' people turn up to have been hiding out in Japan I wonder what the proof is.

What can you tell us about this? Which alleged abductees have been found to be living in Japan all that time? It sounds like you have some very interesting and relevant information.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Really? Five returnees, for starters

@smithinjapan - you mean the ones who had been kidnapped in the 70s and kept in NK until their return in '02?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Korean_abductions_of_Japanese_citizens#Return_of_five_victims

Those 5 victims?

They have nothing to do with your claim that some kidnap victims have been hiding out in Japan.

Your inability to provide even one link to back up your claim of a cover-up (and in this internet age, details on conspiracies are surely easy to find) concerns me, and makes me suspect you're just making stuff up for the hell of it.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

smith,

Here are a couple of points for you to consider. First, it took until 2002, nearly 30 years after many of the Japanese were abducted, for North Korea to even admit they abducted any Japanese people. Second, just because the Japanese government officially states the number abducted and in North Korea is seventeen does not mean they do not think there are more. It merely means they have strong enough confirmation in their opinion. An example of this is the case of Susumu Fujita whose brother has detailed the case with quite strong evidence for his being abducted by North Korea.

North Korea has lied about this issue again and again. They even sent back the remains of what seems to have been two different people and claimed them to be the remains of Megumi Yokota.

I think you are giving North Korea way too much of the benefit of doubt and their actions show they do not deserve it.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I don't think North Korea can fool their citizens no longer. To be frank, they already have some idea of how South Korea lives.

What NK tries to achieve is just that.... a mere dream.

Trying to enslave and feed its people misinformation while at the same time trying to promote advancements in technology? North Korea has much to learn. There's something called the internet. It's eventually going to reach the people of NK as tech advances.

A pathetic regime where it's members tell each other little fantasies of how great their nation is. South Korea is laughing along with the rest of the world.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Where's the proof that they were abducted? They were volunteers who went to North Korea. Give me one single proof.

Fight for your future with North Koreans! You're pretty capable of doing so! Just call a number!

Thanks for confirming what so many of us have suspected.

Sorry but he confirmed nothing, just asked a question. However, since NK has admitted to abductions the "question" raised is to mislead. Or has chunky been living in a vacuum?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It's a well-known fact, for those who choose to acknowledge it and not hide behind the myth, that certain people on the list have turned up alive and well within Japan, but for various reasons ran away (family, taxes, etc.).

Sais the poster who requests facts and links from other participants in the forum but never fails to avoid giving any links which would proof his statements.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Names please. Who on the list has turned up alive and well in Japan?

And post links that there are hundreds of N. Korea kidnapping claims.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Smith,

The article says that a report says that victims may be higher than previously reported. It never says "hundreds". It doesn't even guess at a number. The only person bringing up the word "hundreds" was yourself.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@EastAsiaForeigner Yes, there is a thing called the Internet. But in a country where you get shot for owning a cell phone, Internet may be hard to come by. Also, let's not forget that the entire population is not just propagandized, but BRAINWASHED. From childhood they are given candy in school and told to thank a picture of the leader, etc.. Brainwashing is a powerful thing, not easily overcome. Of course once they are out of there and they see that the real world is not just a "set" shown to them to try to lead them away from the truth, they readily denounce the dictatorship they live under. But until that happens, they will remain loyal and also wary of straying from the approved path, for their own sake as well as their families'. I really feel sorry for the people of NK. They do love their country and their leader, but they are forced to do so and have no choice. If only the country would realize it would benefit by reforming... sigh...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If only the country would realize it would benefit by reforming

The people would benefit, but the government of NK would not. They would be strung up the minute the general population realized what they have needlessly been put through all these years. I can't see the NK government making any real changes domestically. It would mean the end of them. However, I hope the end of the suffering of the NK citizens ends sooner than later.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

report says and not the Prime Minister's office or his envoy who visited NKorea recently (?)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Considering the persistent food shortages that have plagued NK, it wouldn't surprise me if the Japanese were taken there as a source of protein. What a horrible fate...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It's a well-known fact, for those who choose to acknowledge it and not hide behind the myth, that certain people on the list have turned up alive and well within Japan, but for various reasons ran away (family, taxes, etc.). The officially recognized number of kidnapped is 17, but everyone who lost someone around the time of most of the abductions easily blames it on North Korea. I'm guessing the numbe IS higher than 17, but not the HUNDREDS that some people claim.

Who on the list has turned up alive? What are their names? And who is claiming that hundreds of people were kidnapped?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Wow, just wow.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

'hundreds'

Why do you put this into ' ' as if you were quoting someone other than yourself?

HUNDREDS

And please, don't say you're quoting some internet source of yours if you aren't even willing to put one little link up here.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I believe it is time to go after this FAT NORTH KOEAN CLOWN.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Most readers know more about it than I, but it seems odd that North Korea cannot make do with the presence it has long had in Japan.

Defectors, or whatever the term is for North Koreans who are able to make it to Seoul, are held under a microscope for possible infiltrators. That is kind of weird because it would be fairly simple for North Korea to place an agent in Seoul without the drama.

Is NK crafty enough to plan the paranoia these abductions bring to Seoul's psyche regarding refugees?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Why would the N Korean abduct innocent Japanese when there are thousands of Koreans born in Japan who profess allegiance to N Korea? Koreans born in Japan are well versed in Japanese language and customs. I would think it would be a lot easier to bring them over than to kidnap young Japanese. Maybe the Japan born Koreans don't want to go, think they got it made here and rather not face the harsh life in N Korea??

0 ( +1 / -1 )

At the time of the kidnappings. North Korea was as rich if not richer than South Korea.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The North korean regime of terror is illogical and evil - but it makes no sense that there would have been a large-scale abduction of simple folk like japanese fishermen "in order to teach japanese language and customs". I mean, many of these guys probably never completed school - and some wouldve been close to illiterate. On the other hand, NK did use that US defector Jenkins to "teach english" - and that poor fellow struggles with the english language - so only god knows - and ever will know - the truth.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How about you just post one link, in Japanese or English, of an alleged North Korean kidnapping victim turning up alive (or dead) somewhere else in Japan. Just one link please.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

@seraphine

What is known or confirmed clearly is that the brokers (mainly koreans) deceived or abducted the girls, and sometimes their relatives or even their parents did this crime. The authority cracked down this kind of crime in Korean peninsula, and there is no proof of coercion by Japanese government or army.

Jus see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNr5PJCFBE8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj2bLWQ-vis

Attitude to relate the so-called comfort women issue forcibly to the NK abduction issue seems to be rather hypocritical to me. Japanese are not only the victims of NK abduction but so many south Koreans, far more than Japanese, and other nationalities.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

You can get info about abducted people's names and other info at Wikipedia. It has more info about how they were abducted.

Because I post this link here does not mean I am Japan hater or basher. On the contrary, I think Japan is an excellent country, with superb hard working people and an vibrant attitude towards life. All peoples make mistakes, most nations with the ability to do so will at some time commit atrocities of one sort or another. All the more reason to call a bad thing bad and not flinch.

interesting that this completely speculative "report" comes out at a time when Japan is suffering fallout from little Hashimoto' statements.

As much as I like Japan I have difficulty sympathising with them over the abductions issue. in no way do I feel it is justified by the north korean regime but when I see the kinds of attitudes of many japanese commentators regarding comfort women (who to me would be classified as abductees taken against their will to japan or to brothels) it's hypocritical japan demands north korea apologize or return them before Japan acknowledges their own past 'abduction issue ' of asian men (forced labor)and women (sexual slavery) by correctly interpreting its own history.

I just see no reason why north korea would return abductees based on japan's lack of remorse for its wrongdoings in Asia.

And i also feel Abe is not serious about getting back Japanese abductees but turning this entire affair into a political issue with a nationalist agenda. If he wanted to genuinely bring them back he would never have made the comments about the need to redefine japanese agression to its neighbours or question its use of sex slavery. His stated aims and behaviour don't match up.

I hope for the sake of the abductees he casts aside his nationalist pride and actually considers the feelings of his neighbours and does something honorable for once

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Is the timing of this a coincidence to try and deflect a bit of comfort woman critiscism?

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

A joke Japan, no one takes this topic seriously under the current climate

Not making it up at all, and I invite you to join Upgrayedd in finding it yourself. The news is so down-played after the embarrassment that it might not yield up so easily after all the NK abduction news and Japan's joining the Hague convention on child abduction, but be persistent. As for mentioning the five returnees, I misread Upgrayedd's original request for proof of people turning up alive and well in Japan, for which I apologize for being off-topic (in regards to the question).

Anyway, how about you guys prove that beyond the 17 confirmed kidnappings the 'hundreds' of others were kidnapped? Since that what the article is about, the onus is on you, after all. Prove it -- and please... no 2-Channel blogs or people's personal opinions on the matter.

smithinjapanMay. 29, 2013 - 01:32PM JST JoeBigs: "Classic bunk from the pro North Korean posters." Classic bunk from someone without a valid response.

As usual Neville you are here to defend the posts of your favorite nations people, but as usual you are wrong. Sadly and I do mean sadly you hold up the standards of a nation that inslaves it's people. Hopefully you and your fellow PRC/DROK overseers will one day see the errors of your ways but know all of you I dought it.

Ignorance is bliss and you are it's leader.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Whatever the North Koreans do they will never be able to satisfy some people. There will always be "reports", like the one above, of more abductees and the issue will never be resolved. I think the Japanese government prefer it that way: they like having difficult neighbours like North Korea as it gives them an excuse to build up the military.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Upgrayedd: "Who on the list has turned up alive? What are their names?"

Really? Five returnees, for starters. The point is that the list only officially recognizes 17, but there are HUNDREDS of claims, without any proof whatsoever, beyond said 17. And in cases, as I have said but you refuse to see, as usual, some have turned up in Japan alive and well, but hiding out for whatever reason. As insensitive as this may be to say, in some cases it's simply 'convenient' to think a spouse has been kidnapped when they in fact ran away. That's not the point, though -- the point is there is NO proof more than the aforementioned 17 were kidnapped.

And to defend Chucky, since everyone missed the obvious sarcasm -- he was being sarcastic. Read a certain Hashimoto's comments on sex slaves, then reread Chucky's original post.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Maria: "Why do you put this into ' ' as if you were quoting someone other than yourself?"

I'll dummy it down for you. The single quotation marks mean either I am paraphrasing or emphasizing, much like when JT itself says 'tarento' in single quotation marks. Got it? Not so tough, really.

"And please, don't say you're quoting some internet source of yours if you aren't even willing to put one little link up here."

Seriously? There are, literally, hundreds of posts and articles by hundreds of people who claim relatives were abducted. Do a quick Wiki search, if that helps point you in the right direction, but preferably a not editable one. 100% pro-nettoyu for that matter, so you should be partly satisfied.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Upgrayedd: Every source on the internet has testimonies and claims by people that "it may be in the hundreds". Since you're so link-craving, would you like a few hundred to prove it? But again, just check for yourself. NK admits to 13 kidnapping, the J-government officially states 17, then there are a LOT more claims without any shred of proof. But if you like, you can prove them to us now.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Folks, Chucky is simply turning things around rightwingers in Japan are infamously after that elusive piece of paper that provides definitive proof, chucky simply turned it around to show how absurd these silly pieces of paper many in Japan & on JT demand as ""proof"

Got it! If not CLEARLY he wasnt being very serious, just sayin!

Classic bunk from someone without a valid response. I'd say 'classic bunk from North Korean posters', and we all know they all have smart phones and internet access there (that's sarcasm, by the way, since it needs to be pointed out), would be more like the "I'd gladly chop your head off" kind of spamming that made the mods limit posting ability of late.

Upgrayedd: They were people in hiding, I do not recall their names, let alone a FAMOUS Joe Tanaka. Look it up yourself -- true, it won't be on 2-Channel for you, but there are other sources.
