Nurse arrested for vandalism after scribbling kanji for ‘death’ 47 times on car

Police in Sennan, Nara Prefecture, have arrested a 41-year-old nurse on suspicion of property destruction after she scribbled the kanji character for death (死) 47 times on a passenger vehicle in a parking lot.

According to police, Kana Fukuhara used a red marker pen to scribble the kanji character on a vehicle parked in Yamatotakada City, Nara Prefecture, between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on June 27, Kyodo News reported. The car belonged to a man in his 30s.

The man had also complained about 30 scribbled kanji characters for “death” on his car on June 18. This earlier incident prompted him to install a camera in his passenger vehicle. Footage taken from June 27 showed Fukuhara prowling around his car, which led to her subsequent arrest this week.

Police said Fukuhara has denied the allegations and quoted her as saying, “I’ve never even been [to the parking lot], and I don’t know anything about this case.”

Police said Fukuhara and her victim are reportedly not acquainted with each other.

At least she didn't say she can't recall and she was not drinking. I think she didn't like the car!!

Nara is making it into the news more often recently. Maybe there’s even a small correlation for that they somehow hate the rest of Japan, like the Abe case or the number of 47 death-kanji = 47 prefectures ? might indicate. Take care when going there for sightseeing, might be a one way trip. lol

Sounds more like she's stressed out of head rather than being just a vandal.

I hope I never end up with her being my nurse.

No excuses. What she did was just plain wrong. Stress, underpaid, whatever.

I am not sure if "death" is the best thing for a nurse to be scribbling on someone's car.

YeahRight

I heard on the TV there was speculation she was actually targeting someone else, but got the wrong car.

Some of my first thoughts were that the make/model reminded her of someone she held a grudge towards, or that it may have just been a luxury model that triggered some sort of general resentment towards those she perceives as "wealthy".

But, the mistaken identity theory you cite from TV makes more sense.

Not exactly a very good defense when they have footage of the crime.

Yeah, like she doesn't park in that lot. Lame excuse.

It’s strange for a 41 year old nurse to do something like this for no other reason than because she felt like doing it. A grudge?

Acting like a 14-year-old, not 41. Kind of like these juveniles who key-scrape cars. And she's a nurse? God help us.

How would you want her to be your nurse when you're in the hospital?

She's suitable for a euthanasia facility.

Overwork and under paid can do that.

If they do not know each other, and she did commit the crime because of stress then it is possible that he crossed her path and slighted her some way without realizing it.

Work stress or demonic possession?

Either way it's definitely time for this nurse to take an extended vacation.

However, if the victim turns up dead in the future, and the nurse is found to be in no way related to his passing, will she be considered a prophet?

Seems like a plot for a mystery movie.

She is targeting someone she does not like. Obviously.

Not in any way the car owners’ fault, but it seems obvious this nurse is suffering from burnout.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

This is certainly a curious case if they are not acquainted with each other like the police say. And it does appear that she did not scribble them in one go but gradually. But the question remains why she targeted only his car.

Stressed much at work probably?
