Off-duty guard arrested for knife attack at train station

A station guard at Tokyo's Kinshicho Station has been arrested for allegedly slashing a man with a knife on the station platform in February.

The guard, who has been named as 41-year-old Masato Sano from Funabashi in Chiba, was arrested for allegedly attacking a passenger with a knife as they disembarked a train in Sumida on Feb 26 at around 5 p.m., TBS reported Wednesday.

Sano is accused of stabbing the man in the back and slashing his face with a bladed weapon after the pair had become embroiled in an argument. Police say Sano had been sitting next to the man on the train when their elbows had clashed. The pair reportedly started quarreling, following which Sano allegedly attacked the man.

Police say Sano has confirmed that the two became involved in an argument, but denies slashing the man.

Hey this isn't a new one Mirai .... this is the one reported last month, the argument over personal space that lead to a man being stabbed in the back as he left the train. Still, too many stabbing / slashings recently.

...their elbows had clashed.

A slashing starting over this? Sounds like something from the ghetto.

Crap like this is why I carry a little canister of Mace wherever I go. It's getting crazy out there!

But what is it with people's elbows on trains?

No, you can't carry mace. I carry a can of 'whoop ass' instead. There are many extremely high-strung people riding the trains and I regularly see altercations, especially late at night when all the binge drinking salarymen are finished spewing and pissing on the platform. Just keep your wits about you and try not to provoke them. One in three are nuts!

Totally agree with you on that Disillusioned.

Elbows, elbows...... what about all the women who get their arses groped ? good job they don't react in the same way. Stabbings/slashings would go off the chart !

@Troubador: I bought my Mace from an online store in Tokyo, a few years back. The instructions in Japanese read that you must be over 18 years old to carry it. Since I am, I don't see any problems.

I carry my whoop-ass in a bottle, because then I can break it and the jagged edges add extra whoop. In fact, all you really need is the bottle.

Boom. Told you we'd see another before the end of the day -- and this was more than 9 hours ago! This Sato guy is clearly a nut, and to claim he didn't slash the man? Sheesh.

Be careful, people.... this nation is getting worse and worse with its random stabbings.

Perhaps you need to look up the definition of "random". sigh.

And this particular incident was reported by the media (namely Asahi) on Feburuary 27th.

Hence, it's essentially a follow up where police were able to apprehend the suspect despite the fact that the he fled the crime scene as well as the fact that the victim had no relation with the assailant.

do these people just carry knives everywhere they go?

I was out near Kasai Rinkai part a few years back in the summer with my family, and I noticed one idiot fool wearing a big jacket, in the SUMMER. I thought to myself, so why are we all in shorts and this Japanese dude in a jacket, he started pulling out a knife that looked like something from a crazy movie! He was showing it off to his "friends" it was shining from real far away and it was really curvy, like if you get stabbed by an idiot with that kind of knife well it will tear out your guts. Why do idiot fools here in Japan buy these knives?? Why does the stupid Japanese government even allow for them to BE SOLD!! I should have called the police and made sure that scum was arrested, and this was near the beach there in Kasai, I guess Edogawa ku?
