Okinawan man arrested for threatening to detonate bomb at Haneda airport

Police in Tokyo said Wednesday that a 39-year-old Okinawan man has been arrested for posting a message on Twitter in which he threatened to detonate a bomb at Haneda airport in Tokyo.

According to police, Keiyu Takii, a resident of Nakagasukujo, is accused of posting a message on Twitter at around 4 p.m. on Feb 1 in which he said that the next day at around 9 a.m., he would detonate a bomb in the airport terminal and throw Japan into chaos. TV Asahi reported that police searched the terminal but found no explosive devices.

Takii was arrested in Okinawa and transferred to Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon where he was charged with fraudulent obstruction of business. He was quoted by police as saying the death threat was his masterpiece.

Police said Takii is also believed to have posted another Twitter message in which he said he would set off a bomb in front of Hachiko at Shibuya Station in Tokyo. The writer of that message, posted from the same IP address as the Haneda bomb threat, said he wanted to kill as many people as possible and see their blood.

Obstruction of business? Is that the best they could do?

It should be obvious that that is what they are charging him with so that they can hold him whilst deciding which, if any, further charges to bring.

Interesting that the headline reads "Okinawan man". Isn't he a Japanese man? Or is Okinawa only Japanese, when it comes to the topic of US bases in Japan?

Either way, I'm glad he was unable to make good on his threat!

If he really wanted to detonate a bomb, he'd just do it, rather than squawking online about it. Sounds like the guy is deluded, vain, and just trying to get attention. Let him spend a nice long time in jail to think about his life decisions.

in celcius, crazyjoe.

i wonder why he choose haneda and shibuya and not something closer to home, which would make the threat more plausible.

toshikoJUN. 04, 2015 - 11:11AM JST Okinawa people arte Japanese, not gaijin. < So if you are gaijin and born in Okinawa, you're not Okinawan? >

Often news state what place person in news lives, In this case maybe it is rare Okinawan people do criminal actions in mainland that journalist stated Okinawan. < The media usually says where the individual lives, not their birthplace. > A man from Hakkaido, a man from Kyushu, and so on. With all the division going on between, Okinawa and Japan, I simply thought the headline was peculiar.

Perhaps the charge "fraudulent obstruction of business" means that he can be asked to make good the cost of lost business. A bit like rail companies do to the families of suicide victims by way of jumping in front of a train.

You are f'ed here too. He ISNT Okinawan.

Police charged. It can not charge like DA going to a criminal court

I would have thought that they could charge him with : To endanger life, attempted murder, to cause boadly harm, damage to property, assault, these carry quite a hefty sentence, but "fraudulent obstruction of business" seems pretty light weight charge, I don't know Japanese law, but surely there is something on the statute books that would cary a heavy sentence

It was probably included to show the threat came from outside Tokyo.

Whats going on with this news? Did the Ryukyu Shimpo and Okinawa times and Governor use their influence to kill this story?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is due to the Okinawa US base issue.

I wonder if tensions are going to escalate. If anyone here remembers, when the government forcibly acquired land and evicted landowners to build Narita Airport, there was a lot of violence and terrorist attacks against police and constuction workers. I have a feeling that things might go this way with the new base being built in okinawa. I wonder if we'll begin to see similar attacks against targets in Tokyo if Abe continues to ignore and force his agenda down under.

Just a question, so would love to hear everyone's opinion on this:

The threat is likely a statement regarding the central government's treatment of Okinawa over the years.

How did they find his twitter message?

@stuart: There are people who were born in USA and became Japanese citizen in Okinawa/ They are Okinawans. Gaijin born in Okinawa? Maybe you should check the law of koseki in Japan. My children were born in USA and American but in my home city in Japan registered in my Koseki (almost 500 years ) stated Tosjiko's first son, Toshiko;s first daughter. So my brother stiopped to announce there after. So I don't know gaijin born in Okinawa. Dp you want to educate me???
