Very soon black belt in soap dropping... Karma is a bitch.

5 ( +6 / -2 )

I hope this judo dude enjoys his karma behind bars!

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

“unable to resist as she was in a profound sleep due to intoxication.”

Wow, that must have been fun! What a POS!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Miserable man.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

he'll come out of retirement to return gold medals and become a parolee..all 4 some illegal teen pc...grand j-logic...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

He was just a hentai Olympic gold medalist. He will go to prison.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

NOOOOO~!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Like I've always said.... this stuff happens all too often in Japan along with wife beating. Woman are just too embarassed or afraid to come forward.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

This is what happens when you sexualise young girls like AKB48. Japan is a sexists and perverts paradise, most victims also fail to report so men get away with it.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

I still think its the woman's fault too. It takes 2 to Tango..she led him into this shit.

-17 ( +5 / -22 )

He will never go to jail, this case will disappear after her family settles out of court

2 ( +3 / -1 )

because he was a hero

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Did the woman/girl press charges? If not, who is?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

not cool

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

@sensei258 "He will never go to jail, this case will disappear after her family settles out of court"

BUT if he ever wanted to visit the US and other countries with the US new sex offender with minors law he must be registered with Interpol as a sex offender with a minor from Japan.....

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Uchishiba was hailed as a hero at home when he became the first Japanese to win a gold medal

In the grand scheme of things in world sport, this guy is a nothing anyway - hardly a hero. Lucked onto a medal in a minor amateur sport - big whoopee. A complete unknown outside Japan. Maybe he was lording up his fake "hero" status around these college kids?

Hope he enjoys the "judo" in the big house...

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Just to note, though 20 is the age of adulthood here, as far as I've read though she was a teenager she was of the age of consent for sex. A university student, so probably 18 or 19. The crime here seems to not be her age but that he supposedly had sex with her without her consent due to her being too drunk or asleep.

On a side note, since she wasn't of legal age to drink alcohol, I wonder why nobody is stating that the izakaya they were drinking at didn't check for ID? Probably because I've never seen an izakaya here that checks IDs when it comes to alcohol.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Gold medal aside, this fellow lost control, and took illegal advantage of a young, albeit dumb, girl.

Note to underage, inexperienced girls: Drinking alcohol is a thing best done with people you know, and trust. If that situation doesn't exist, stick to oolong cha. You heard it here first.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I still think its the woman's fault too. It takes 2 to Tango..she led him into this shit.

From the article:

unable to resist as she was in a profound sleep due to intoxication.”

so, SS1, how did someone in a 'profound sleep due to intoxication' (I.e. passed out) lead him on?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Guy gets all the blame even though the GIRL got TOO drunk, something wrong when there is no responsibilty placed on the girl. Quite simple really, go out with older guys get absolutely plastered without exercising some self control over your own drinking, have sex and blame everyone else.

Bit like getting plastered staggering across the railway line infront of an oncoming shinkansen, train driver takes all the blame - NO I DONT THINK SO. You are responsible for your own train wreck.

Guy should have exercised better social morales maybe.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

borscht:

so, SS1, how did someone in a 'profound sleep due to intoxication' (I.e. passed out) lead him on?

By participating in the group act of imbibing alcohol, she publicly declared herself 'in control.'

By then getting intoxicated to the point of passing out, she made it possible for this knuckle-dragger to act.

It's still rape, but this scene could have been avoided entirely, had they both exercised self-control.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

He's Done!-His lawyers might get him off the hook with some B.S.psycho-babble but he's done. He's betrayed not only this young lady but everyone around him!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

While I agree that he was totally wrong in taking advantage of a drunk girl, unless he forced her to drink and get drunk, some blame has to be put on her too. She knew she was too young to drink but she chose to drink anyway. And why drink to the point where you can't control yourself? That's bad on her part. Sure that doesn't mean men can take advantage but still! He deserves to be punished for what he did but she shouldn't get away scott-free either.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Weeeelllp... looks like someone's gonna look forward to karma in jail. wow.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

She knew she was too young to drink but she chose to drink anyway.

Doesn't the legal concept of being underage carry with it the idea that the young person is too young to be responsible enough to say No?

that doesn't mean men can take advantage

Exactly. No but stills needed.

she shouldn't get away scott-free either

She didn't get away scot-free. She got raped.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Ah, yes, if the woman drinks too much, it's her fault. No need in a civilized society for a man to take responsibility for a passed out woman; rape is perfectly logical and acceptable because SHE WAS DRINKING, TOO. No one forced her! (obviously someone hasn't been to a Japanese nomikai).

The only blame that can be placed on the woman is drinking when she's underage and trusting her judo coach.

Guy gets all the blame even though the GIRL got TOO drunk,

So the acceptable penalty for being too drunk is rape? Rape is not pleasurable sex, you know. There're psychological and physical problems that can follow. A decent human, which Uchishiba and some commenters are not, would make sure she was safe and didn't vomit and die of asphyxiation. Not decide to get his jollies off.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

She may have just been learning some grappling moves. Like drunken master training.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I really think many of you are missing the Cultural aspect of this totally. This is Japan... women just don't, in general, cry rape here at all and for this girl to step forward either she is very dillusional or was forcibly raped. That this guy is a Gold Medal winner would even make it more difficult for her to come forward but she has.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Export2,

Your scenario is not impossible but please remember she was underage and he was her coach - her teacher. As the responsible adult, he should have told her not to drink; an impossible task in Japan, I realize.

If she started coming on to him, he as her teacher and the responsible adult, should have said no. When she continued drinking, he should have stopped the waiter from bringing more alcohol or left.

In either case, he's the responsible adult. I don't care if she stood naked in front of him, have another student take care of her and leave. Buyer's remorse doesn't happen when there's no sale.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This Olympic gold medal hero will emerge from this scandal with numerous appearances on TV as he joins the other wayward stars & noted people who cash in on their misdeeds. Just hope the girl doesn't end up going to prison like the guy who punched out the obnoxious kabuki star did.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

ExportExpert: "Guy should have exercised better social morales maybe."

Yeah, like rape isn't a crime -- it's just a social faux pas?

It's amazing that people in this day and age will still blame the raped for being raped instead of putting the blame where it lies -- with the rapist. Blame her for being drunk if that helps assuage whatever misogyny makes you feel the fault is always with the woman, but even then he still committed statutory rape at BEST.

Lock him up and throw away the key. Hope he gets to see the receiving end of this crime in prison.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Rape is bad, nobody I think would doubt that. But why are so many just accepting her version of events? I also find a conviction based on his say against hers very scarey too. Can she prove she was so intoxicated that she was asleep? Were there cameras/staff at the hotel who could testify how drunk she was? And in the first place, she was stupid to get that drunk with such a guy in the first place. Maybe he raped her? Maybe she just regretted it the next day? Rape is a horrible crime but there are some circumstances that one should not put oneself into. This being one of them.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

y3chome: "I also find a conviction based on his say against hers very scarey too. Can she prove she was so intoxicated that she was asleep?."

She can prove her age, which constitutes she was underage and therefore it is statutory rape. What's more, her COACH bought her alcohol at an izakaya (knowing she was underage to boot!!). What more proof of crime do you need?

"Rape is a horrible crime but there are some circumstances that one should not put oneself into."

One shouldn't rape anyone else, that's for sure, but it's something the apologists on here seem to be forgetting.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

smithinjapan you assume it was statuotry rape she may well have been 18 or 19 which is legal in this country, again you dont use facts.

And just because she screams rape doesnt mean it was rape, he has yet to have a fair trial. There are many incedents where girls call rape when it was in fact not.

She has buyers remorse and calls copper doesnt make it rape, she might have been saying yes yes do it prior to passing out.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

y3chome & ExportExpert - I agree with both of you. Rape is very bad and if he really did rape her, then he should be punished to the full extent. But at the same time, just because someone says they are raped doesn't mean they truly were. It's like those girls on the trains that accuse men of groping them when they really weren't. They just did it to get paid. (Don't get me wrong, I know there are LOTS of girls who truly do get groped. But I've seen TV shows that actually interviewed girls who wrongly accused men of groping so that they can buy their Pradas and Fendi's.)

Her age wasn't mentioned. I'm assuming she's like 18 or 19. I would hate to think he took a 15 or 16 year old to an izakaya and got away with serving her alcohol. At 18 or 19, you know right from wrong. Sure, he was supposed to be in a trusting position, but that doesn't mean you can get plastered. I'm not saying she deserved what she got. I'm just saying she definitely learned the hard/wrong way that you have to control your drinking! And what if she told him she was 20?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

smithinjapan she is under the age for drinking, not sex. Was she forced to go to the Izakaya with him and was she forced to drink? Dont think so.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

I mean lots of Japanese guys I have met are complete creepos and would do something given half the chance; I think it is very possible he could be one of those creepos. But we dont have the full story, and I am disinclined to believe it was totally non-consensual seeing as she put herself in the situation, and would have known full well what things might lead to.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Sorry- lots of guys i know are Creepos- its an international club not limited to Japan :)

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

kinda amazed at the number of people here who seem to think that if someone gets drunk & passes out its ok to assault/rape them, WTF!

Now assuming it happened the way its written above this goof shud be locked up for a long time, end of story.

And for christ sakes female students shudnt have to worry about the teachers attacking them, messed up, probably due to all the rape videos out there, clearly some j-guys think this is normal behavior

7 ( +10 / -3 )

at least he did not used the excuse "I was so drunk ,I dont remember anything " I will give him that!

how far was the pub to the Hotel?

I feel a set up!

his fault for falling for that trap!

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

GW- its irrelevant that the guy was a teacher. Yes it makes is more morally objectionable, but still he is male plain and simple. To go out with some dude, even after all the others in the party have gone home, and then proceed to get plastered, is Im afraid stupid. And before people start to scream "so does she deserve to get raped?"... question remains, was she in fact raped, or did she just do something she probably shouldnt have and regretted it later?

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

If she was so intoxicated how does she remember that she was passed out and not in fact randily leading him on? Just a thought.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

I think there are soooo many rapes in Japan. Girls just don't want to report it due to shame and scandal. Right there are lots of perverts, chauvanist, hentais in Japan. Sorry Japan, but it's true.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@y3chome......For an olympic champion and famous figure in society, this Uchishiba should be in jail for a long time to set an example for Japanese chauvanist, pervert pigs to respect women especially minors the way they respect their mother and not as their sex toys whether the accused is plain male and simple. Rape is a crime. Period.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

bajhista65 I agree rape is a crime, no quibbles there. The question is, was this case rape?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

ExportExpert: "smithinjapan you assume it was statuotry rape she may well have been 18 or 19 which is legal in this country, again you dont use facts."

So you don't know her age at all but accuse me of not using facts?

"She has buyers remorse..."

And yet here we are again -- you saying this rapist should not be charged or even accused of rape without 'the facts' but your stating, matter of fact, that the woman is to blame and the man a victim. Very, very sad.

y3chome: "Sorry- lots of guys i know are Creepos- its an international club not limited to Japan :)"

Obviously, given a lot of the comments on here suggesting the rape was 'deserved' because a coach got his student liquored up before raping her.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

GW: "kinda amazed at the number of people here who seem to think that if someone gets drunk & passes out its ok to assault/rape them, WTF!"

No kidding! Society can be sick enough with people like Uchishiba getting his students drunk to he can rape them, and yet people are on here HONESTLY making the girl -- for she is not an adult by law -- the victim!

"clearly some j-guys think this is normal behavior"

As do some posters, it seems.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Didn't come out right: "...and yet people are on here HONESTLY making the girl -- for she is not an adult by law -- the victim!"

That should read "...making her out to be the criminal", not 'victim', which she clearly is (victim).

6 ( +8 / -2 )

read again smithinjapan Not saying she "Deserved" it because of being intoxicated at all. Though voluntarily getting into that state, would naturally later cast doubt on your version of events. Nothing to do with "deserved", noone is suggesting that.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Uchisiba abused his fame and authority as a "teacher." As the young lady is a minor, it is impossible for him to have had "consensual" sex with her. What he did was wrong on so many levels. One would think that if a "teacher" was present at a party where a minor was drinking, he had a responsibility to stop the behavior. A married man taking advantage of a drunk girl; what a sorry excuse for a human being.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

She is underage, case closed.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

So if what she is saying is true and it was rape= thats bad, he should be punished. Zero sympathy for her putting herself in that situation though, but rape is rape. Maybe her story isnt true? I dont know. Can it be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt?

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

she is underage for DRINKING ffs people get it right. This guy might be scum, we dont know. He abused his position of authority as a celeb blablabla. Guys use whatever they thinks they can impress with to get laid, i wouldnt go so far as to call it abuse of fame. The fact he was a teacher, though not illegal, is morally wrong I believe.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

His lawyer can suggest the judo dude to marry the victim. After all young girls marry " older " men in japan all the time. Case closed.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

He is a gold medal and a national hero. Sometimes mistakes happen, but he will only get a suspended sentence.

oberst,

After all young girls marry " older " men in japan all the time.

I don't think it happens more often than other, say G8 nations. Does anyone know the standard deviations and variance among married populations? O.o

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

y3chome: "Not saying she "Deserved" it because of being intoxicated at all. Though voluntarily getting into that state..."

Stopped at the 'though' part, where you contradict yourself. You have made the raped the criminal.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

"Uchisiba abused his fame and authority as a "teacher." As the young lady is a minor, it is impossible for him to have had "consensual" sex with her."

Exactly, Slacker, but some will still claim that despite the infidelity, the underage problem, the fact that he was her teacher, and the fact he raped her, it's still her fault. Simply astounding.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Actually the legal age for "consensual sex" is 13-18 in Japan(same as 18 is in many countries even though people might not be adults till 20/21).

Google "Age of consent".

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It"S ME: "Actually the legal age for "consensual sex"..."

What's the legal age for rape, just out of curiosity? Ah, wait... there isn't one.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Zero sympathy for her putting herself in that situation though

y3chromosome,

wow just wow, thats a pretty damning statement, young people do stupid stuff all the time, both sesxes, been there done it myself, glad people like you werent around, glad I only had some hangovers to deal with.................

5 ( +6 / -1 )

So far there is no legal proof that rape actually happened nor has anybody been convicted of rape.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

oberst: "His lawyer can suggest the judo dude to marry the victim."

Oops! He was already married when he raped this girl.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Was he drunk as well?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

no excuse for sexually violating someone - she had to have to known who he was though - does she want his money or to be in the spotlight? i'd like to know the victim's version of this story. reminds me of the kobe bryant scandal...

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

We all know that whatever the age of consent and the age of doing other things most people are at both way before when the law says they should. What I am horrified at is simply at how many people on here seem to think it is ok to have sex wth a passed out woman, and that it is somehow her fault for being raped because she was drunk! WTF??!

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Nicky: "What I am horrified at is simply at how many people on here seem to think it is ok to have sex wth a passed out woman, and that it is somehow her fault for being raped because she was drunk! WTF??!"

Agreed 100%, Nicky... these people should be ashamed.

GenevaManDEC. 28, 2011 - 07:08AM JST Very soon black belt in soap dropping... Karma is a bitch.

oh man LOL! what can i say. no more t comment, you said it

1 ( +1 / -0 )

There is often more to the story then what we read on JT so people need to be alittle more open minded than just go and condem someone on the word of a scorned woman.

He still needs to go to trial yet so if he is then found guilty you can hang em untill then he is innocent so reserve judgment untill that day.

Too many guys get wrongly accused , not saying he is or is not a rapist just saying it aint always cut n dried everytime.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Patrick: "Just because he's famous, the JT kangaroo court has already convicted him."

And just because he's raped a woman you have deemed the court of law 'kangaroo' (or at least the court of law that posters on JT recognize and you question).

"Plenty of women leaving izakayas are drunk, but not every man who heads off with one can be declared a rapist."

How about one who is their teacher and takes them to said izakaya, underage, and gets them drunk before raping them?

Again, it's incredibly sad to see you guys blaming the woman and forgiving the criminals.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

No one, Patrick, is singling this guy out because he's a famous rapist... just because he's a rapist. The thing is he wouldn't make the news if not famous. But you go check out your neighbourhood and show me a guy getting a girl all liquored up at your local izakaya then raping her and I'll gladly step in to defend the woman while you pat the guy on the back and suggest it's not his fault.

Rape is a crime for a reason -- it's not limited to celebrities, but the celebrities who rape others make more waves.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

did they have sex before? he should have asked her way before drinking, she should have known better than to drink in a hotel room with a guy. Not saying its her fault But she should have been smarter. Him too! he could have easly got another girl. either way its another star that get into Trouble & its their own Fault. my question is will he be banned from the next Olympics? just curious

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

ExportExpert: "Sounds like you have an axe to grind."

It's not me insisting the victims are the criminals while there are no facts to prove the criminals guilty -- save the words of some woman who 'brought it on', of course. You really want to talk about axes to grind?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

ExportExpert: "you are condeming the guy when he hasnt been found guilty yet."

You've already declared her guilty and him innocent for raping her. What does a judge's verdict mean if it's the same outdated misogynistic garbage? You've been shot down again and again on this and similar threads and quite frankly you should stick to praising garbage like the All Blacks in rugby because blaming women for being raped is not only old, it's wrong.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

smithinjapan you are still sad and bitter coz your crap team lost in he rugby? what a goose !

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

There are two sides to the story and so far we only have the accusation and indictment. Uchishiba is innocent until proven guilty; which in no way implies that he is innocent either. I do not think it is wrong for posters here to state the obvious - which is that people should take precautions to avoid putting themselves in situations where they can be taken advantage of. They were both drunk. She was so drunk that she passed out. That doesn't justify the crime. However, it is simple common sense that people protect themselves with the knowledge that bad things can happen even with people you think you can trust. For the alleged victim, hindsight does her no good now. But it does serve as a precaution in the future for her and for others.

This guy might have a history of being sexually aggressive with women and so far things don't look good because there is presumably at least some evidence in order for him to be indicted. However, women have been known to lie about being raped. Despite what women's groups might say, a woman's allegation alone is not evidence of a crime. There is more evidence yet unknown.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Why not wait until we get the facts?! All rather suspicious to me. In Japan going to a hotel room together is pretty much a sign of consent. Indeed the izakaya needs to be questioned for serving "minors" drinks and his teenage fetish needs to be dealt with

1 ( +2 / -1 )

In any case, I'm happy to see this idiot rapist indicted. I hope he gets at least five years, and I hope during those five years he comes to understand what being raped means. He won't be able to blame it on being drunk, nor will he have the men and women here who beg his innocence and scorn the person raped, but hey.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The comments here are just sickening, but they really give an insight into how rape culture is perpetuated in societies across the world. Even if there was video footage of the incident, and even with all the forensic evidence available, the victim-blamers here would still be using any flimsy excuse to exculpate this man and blame the poor girl for having been intoxicated. As if being drunk is a crime that is punishable by rape!

This man was in a position of trust. Any decent human being, when confronted with a girl who is dangerously drunk, would escort her home, enlist the help of her friends if they're around, place her in the recovery position, and ensure that she was in no danger. Not this creep.

Her being drunk and defenceless is irrelevant. No one should have to be in a state of constant vigilance in case they are raped. What puts them in danger is the presence of a rapist.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I am wondering who was serving alcohol to this underage girl inside a public Pub?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

17 - 19 year old woman raped by Judo Gold Medalist.

They both drank alone not the team. I guess she was the least mature of the bunch and also star struck. So he took advantage of that !!!! I bet this happens all the time.

Entertainment & Sports figures in japan happen all the time.

Very sad !!!!

Sports players need to control their hormones.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What I am horrified at is simply at how many people on here seem to think it is ok to have sex wth a passed out woman, and that it is somehow her fault for being raped because she was drunk!

You're twisting people's words.

Would you say it's wise, or unwise, to get passing-out drunk and go to a hotel with someone you don't really know? Saying it's unwise is not the same as saying it was her fault for being raped or that she deserved to be raped.

Not a contradiction mate. No sympathy does not = deserved.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Ah Nessie got it right, shoulda left it to him

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Thank you Nessie.

And just because he's raped a woman

And you know that for sure? If he were equally drunk, why is he held completely accountable as if he were sober, and she is not?

I find it alarming that a woman claiming rape makes people automatically assume guilt on the part of the male, and the attitude that the woman is NEVER at fault for putting herself in a dangerous situation. In any other scenario, someone flashing a roll of money in a nightclub who later gets robbed, someone who drives carelessly and then has an accident or runs someone over, people will say 'Too bad that happened, but they should have seen it coming'. In cases of claimed (not proven) rape, instantly the woman becomes the next incarnation of the Virgin Mary, a poor innocent flower that was preyed upon by a wolf, despite copious alcohol consumption, the woman herself making advances, or going to a man's hotel room. They hold a man culpable while equally drunk....a man can control himself completely while three sheets to the wind, even though a woman in the same state 'couldn't help it'? That's almost to the point of patronizing women....'poor thing, you got blotto, you couldn't help it'. Women really can't tell that something might happen to them if they get totally sh*t-faced and go to a man's hotel room!?

This kind of attitude gave us the Duke case, where one young man charged was at an ATM at the time of the alleged crime, but was charged anyway. Where no DNA from any of the 40-some-odd lacrosse players was found (despite the semen of four other men being found), but they were charged anyway. The other stripper at the party testified that Crystal Gail was only in the bathroom long enough to use it, and not for almost an hour, and they were charged anyway. She said they did it, they must have! As soon as they were charged, and before trial, they were pronounced guilty in the media and on blogs like Feministing. The professors of Duke released a joint statement condemning the boys. The lacrosse team had the remainder of their season cancelled, the boys lost a year of their educations. It doesn't frighten any of you at all? You can be on camera miles away, use your entrance card and be time-stamped coming into the dorm after the alleged incident and you can still be charged...if a woman says you raped her, you must have.

The Duke case is not an isolated case. One more famous case was in England, a drunk woman screamed rape and got a taxi driver arrested. He was pilloried in the press and online lost his job, his wife threatened to leave him. His cab's camera, however, showed him asking her to pay her fare, her refusing and then running from the cab screaming.

This case will be prosecuted. What happened will eventually come out in a court of law, until then it's rash to decide that he's guilty, and that she has no responsibility at all.

I think its ludicrous to say that if a woman drinks too much "it's her fault." When a man drinks too much should it be o.k. if he's violated by a homosexual? When anyone overdrinks they should be taken care of by their so called friends or associates and make sure they don't drown in their vomit, hurt themselves, or others. Drunks are to be given the same care as "babies" then disinvited to the following nomikais or sent home by the senior person when they get out of hand. This is a very sick man who would probably claim that he spent all his life practicing his sport so he didn't grow up (i.e. MJ). We all have had adversities, but if you turn to abusing others by being a preditor, you should also turn to a shrink. The other side of the coin is that Japan's psychiatry/psychology/counseling really sucks. Everything is "heart sick." Don't give this boy a visa to anywhere! Keep Japanese thrash in Japan. America and Europe has their own thrash, and plenty of it, they should restrict travels of **all perverts**.

I would say that most likely both had a bit too much(who hasn't been there)? Even the ol' romans stated that wine increases the desire but reduces the performance.

Either way all is still up in the air and so far no proof of anything has been provided. Lets go easy on condemning one or declaring the other as innocent.

Anyone with some real life experience won't do so as they know how things happen across the world. I had teens come onto me and also felt that some teens were nice if ...

Himajin: "And you know that for sure? If he were equally drunk, why is he held completely accountable as if he were sober, and she is not?"

So if you get wasted and drive into a group of people, they should be partially to blame for your driving drunk and killing them? Or should you be let off easy because you were drunk?

And it's easy to see how rape continues....SMDH! First of all, as her coach he is in a position of authority. As such, he shouldn't have been tossing back drinks w/her in the first place, and if you are with your COACH you should be able to think this person has your best interest at heart. My daughter Amanè あまね just made the basketball team, and I'm telling you now, if one of her coaches was with her and watched her consume alcohol (albeit she's in middle school) but did nothing to stop her, I would be PISSED! If said coach then had sex with her, he better hope that I don't find him. In general, people who are raped deal with that trauma for years and that's without having to deal with people like some of the posters, who believe that it's okay because she should've been more responsible. I mean, who in their right mind would expect their coach not to have sex with them when they are drunk? I think it's interesting that several of the posters are quick to point out that the coach is innocent unitl proven guilty. However, these same posters have condemned the girl to be someone who just wants money.

No one is saying she is at fault. However, her judgement is being questioned she was out drinking underage and agreed to go back to a hotel room with an older, married man.

We don't know the details. He could have raped her or she could be crying wolf. I find the timing suspicious since the onein Kyushu has just come out. Sadly, there have been numerous cases of young Japanese women crying rape and being groped only to extort money out of men. She may or may not be one of them.

Either way, the guy is a slime ball. I'm wondering if his wife will stand by him through all of this. Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if she did.

No one says she wants money. No one says she deserved it. What I am saying is that she shares some responsibility for what happened. She knows she shouldn't be drinking, and she went to his hotel? Do any of you remember being 19? Do you really think a 19-year-old is a child??

HImajin,

I never said we know for sure she was raped. You quoted someone else and attibuted it to me. Would you please not do that in future?

If you re-read my post you will see that my comment posed a hypothetical: In situtation X, would you say Y?

I was answering more than one poster, I really was thanking you for your thoughtful post, then I went on to the next one.

I should have left more space between sections of my post, I apologize, Nessie!!

And just because he's raped a woman

was from smithinjapan. I thought it hasty to make such conclusions before it's gone to court.

Again, my apologies Nessie.

And just because he's raped a woman

He hasnt even been tried yet.

forgiving the criminals...

Nor has he been convicted of an offense.

I am always astonished on this site that people who I assume have graduated from a recognised university still think that being arrested or accused of a crime = guilty. This case doesnt seem open-and-shut at all and I if he is acquitted, I hope a few people on here will think twice before breaking out the pitchforks and flaming torches.

I'm not going to defend either side in this story, yet point out the grey area in psychology.

Alcohol is like any other drug, it alters your usual perception of reality. While sober she may have never slept with him. It is common knowledge, that if you drink, you will do things that you never would have without it, such as drive a car drunk, disabling and / or killing several of your loved ones or someone else's loved ones. Or attack a police officer, etc etc

People should know better, that if someone (man or woman) is intoxicated, completely willing and consenting, says "lets do it", wakes-up the next morning with no memory or a breakdown in reasoning of how this happened then says "I was raped" then to them it was rape. Thats the risk millions of people take every day. This goes for men and women both. I'm sure there are a lot of men who regret who they have slept with and 10x the women who regret it. They could change the law to define rape as having intercourse with someone under the influence of a mind altering substance.

I am neither justifying, accusing or defending anyone, just stating the obvious for contemplation.

http://danieldiaztecles.blogspot.com/ The athlete who wins has the duty to be an example for others. There is no kind of excuse to deceive or drugging children for sexual purposes. I condemn any such behavior completely.

@nessie:

Would you say it's wise, or unwise, to get passing-out drunk and go to a hotel with someone you don't really know? Saying it's unwise is not the same as saying it was her fault for being raped or that she deserved to be raped.

Unwise absolutely. BUT - firstly, this wasnt someone she didnt know, was it? It was her Judo coach, and all her Judo team-mates. Secondly, she didnt go to "a hotel" she went to the one she was staying in. Seems reasonable to me. Thirdly, if she was that drunk she almost certainly wasnt even aware whether the room was his or hers. Saying she "went to his room" suggests some kind of conscious decision-making. Whether she was passed out or not is debatable, I acknowledge this, but there were enough others drinking there to be able to confirm what kind of state she was in.

No it is not the same as saying it was her fault, but the implication was certainly there - and not just me but several other posters have had the same reaction to it.

Believe me, I am all for innocent till proven guilty, but notice I am not condemning him. I am simply stating that it horrifies me that certain people seem to be suggesting it is ok to have sex with a passed out woman. Yes, she was unwise, but she was a teenager for Gods sake! Teenagers do stupid things. They ARE young and unwise! Thats why responsible adults (such as a Judo coach for example) accompany them.

Let me give you another scenario (true story): someone went to a bar with some friends. They left but she wanted to watch the end of a football game on the bar screen. The bar was in her apartment building on holiday in Spain, just a few floors below her apartment. The next thing she knows she woke up with a guy she didnt know in his hotel room. She has no memory whatsoever of what happened. He claimed she went back to his room and they had consensual sex there. She was very sick for a few days and kept having flashbacks to what happened that night. She remembers being held by her wrists in a car, and that there were two men. It turns out (months later) when she finally went to a rape crisis centre that this scenario is all too common and it is likely based on her symptoms and flashbacks of what happened that he slipped something into her drink. It was completely and utterly out of character for her to go off with someone she didnt know, never mind sleep with them.

Was that her fault for staying in the bar alone? If this story were the headline here, would people be saying that she "went back to his hotel room with him"? Would people be saying she should have been more responsible? (she was 26 at the time). This guy was never charged, and is free to go off and do it again, and probably has. Why did she never report it at the time? Because in the beginning she thought it was her mistake and no-one would take it seriously. Understandable really, given some of the comments here.
