A one-year-old boy was found dead and his 24-year-old mother unconscious in a car in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, on Saturday in what police was a murder-suicide attempt.

According to police, Hinami Fujiyama and her son Toshi were found in the back seat of a car in the parking lot of a sports ground at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Sankei Shimbun reported. A police patrol found the car after Fujiyama’s husband and parents called police at around 10 p.m. to report that they hadn’t been able to contact her.

Police said the car doors were locked and the windows sealed with tape. There were remnants of burned charcoal briquettes inside the car.

Fujiyama and her son were taken to hospital where the boy was pronounced dead. His mother remained unconscious on Sunday, police said.

Again with the crazy Japanese mother's, it's scary. Awful for that child who never got to experience so much of life.

RIP kid, he could've done so much in life. She could've surrendered the kid to her relatives or someone else. I'll never get used to reading such news like this, sad.

Seriously what’s with some Japanese mothers? This whole murder suicide thing and taking your kids with you is ingrained into Japanese culture.

@Toshihiro...i believe in Japan it is shameful for someone to ask for help. It is also Shameful for someone to burden others. Thats is why in Japan we read about such horrors. The culture needs to change. This mother will never burden a relative or a stranger with the responsibility of raising her child. Children in Japan need to start learning how to ask for help and assistance from a young age, so when they grow up, it becomes part of a normal healthy life. Shame on Japan for ignoring these social issues and just sweeping them under the carpet.

Yeah, I'm more or less ok if a person chooses to end their own life, but killing the kids is horrifying. Serious mental health issue here.

That’s not so specific to Japan. The pressure is very intense on young families with newborn or young children everywhere The real problem in most cases is, that nobody tells beforehand, what obstacles to expect and what countermeasures or help are available, so that they are completely alone and unprepared for the situation, sometimes for many months or even years.

So sad! RIP.

So sad. Unfortunately, this is happening all too frequently now and will only get worse as the economy of Japan sinks.

And, another! Honestly, please kill yourself first, then others (meaning leave others alone). The only good thing is that the mother survived, and now I hope we don't get a bell-jar verdict of one year and she spends the rest of her life in prison.

It’s heartbreaking but I’m not at all shocked. I’m not trying to generalize but what is the ratio of Japanese mothers to Fathers killing their children? It seems pretty lopsided to the former. I don’t even think it’s because Japanese men work long hours and are never home. I have plenty of Japanese male friends with children and from what I’ve seen, they are very much involved in their kid’s lives. I think it has more to do with Japanese women having absolutely no ambition and don’t work and then go mentally insane from being at home all day. At least that was the case with my psychotic Japanese ex wife.

BABY HATCH! don't take the life of a child that hasn't had the chance to do anything yet. The child had no idea and there are plenty of families that would love to have a child.... heck call me I will take your child and raise it with love..... I hate this so much!

So sad. Unfortunately, this is happening all too frequently now and will only get worse as the economy of Japan sinks.

....which will continue sinking as these Corona "emergency" rules destroy ever more small businesses. So more people will kill themselves, but hurray, they are safe from Corona.

Japan really needs to get the picture that it is totally okay to not have kids if you don't want them. It has changed to some degree, but I still hear from a lot of women who feel it is their responsibility/duty to procreate, regardless of whether they want them or not. Others see it almost as an instagram accessory. Men are obviously not blameless in this attitude whatsoever.

Before we started dating, my girlfriend didn't even realise being childfree was an option, and was dreading eventually having to become a mother.

Having kids is stressful and hard for people who actually want them. If you don't, it is enough to push anyone to their breaking point. Having a kid at 23 seems WAY too young, I am not surprised that this woman was driven to this.

If she recovers, obviously she will be facing jail time but I hope she can get the help she needs.

The drive to procreate is biological. Any species that did not have that has taken itself out of the gene pool.... ever heard of evolution?

That said, of course those who really do not want should not be forced to have children.

Seriously what’s with some Japanese mothers? This whole murder suicide thing and taking your kids with you is ingrained into Japanese culture. Evidently you don't know much about Japan. Look at the environment and how people behave. Talking on the phone on the train or eating is all looked upon as being a no no. Does it surprise you that Japanese feel shameful to ask someone to ask even though they needed it badly. They just don't want to feel they are bothering you. Posters here are saying the culture needs to change. This will never happen and we will hear more about the same situation carrying out daily. I am sure the mother didn't want to burden anyone with her problems she felt they were hers and hers alone. In school kids are taught at a young age to not speak their mind and not to cause trouble. If asked what they think, they are taught to ask the person what do they think about the same question instead of answering it. Nothing is going to change as long as you see the yellow and the pink hats separated and women having little or no say to control their own lives.

@Zaphod

I would like to think we have risen as a species above the base needs to fulfill every biological imperative that pops into our head.

Yes, if everyone stopped procreating the species would die out. Appreciate the bingo, but there isn't any real likelihood that every human-being is becoming childfree overnight.

People need to realise it is an option that is available to them before they end up having a child they ultimately do not want or are not ready for. Social pressures do not always allow for that. Heck, when I was this woman's age I was still resigned to having to have kids some day, because I felt that was just what you did.

Agreed, alot of people have children think they have too. but burden and sacrifice that parents need to make is something this generation is not willing to do. Personal Happiness comes first.
