Osaka transportation bureau employee stabbed to death

An assistant official working for Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau was stabbed at a bus terminal in Tennoji on Monday, police said Tuesday. The victim, who has been identified as Satoshi Emoto, 48, was allegedly attacked by 20-year-old Hiroshige Morioka at around 10:30 a.m. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries. Morioka was arrested at the scene.

According to a Fuji TV report, the incident was caused by a misunderstanding on Sept 22, when Morioka believed a city bus driver had sounded his horn at him. Eyewitnesses say that Morioka kicked and chased the bus following the misunderstanding.

Apparently, Morioka went to the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau office to voice his complaints and accosted Emoto between two buses in the yard, Fuji reported. He then allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Emoto in the chest.

"According to a Fuji TV report, the incident was caused by a misunderstanding on Sept 22, when Morioka believed a city bus driver had sounded his horn at him."

Wow... so you murder a guy (and since he took a knife with him to confront Emoto you can say it was premeditated -- at least that it MIGHT happen) because you think he honked his horn at you? Enjoy prison... hopefully for life. And I hope you get honked at a whole lot there.

Talk about wound up!

What the f. Poor 20 year old guy probably didnt have anything to do with it and bamm death.

The 20 year old is the alleged killer. The 48 year old was the victim.

Bloody hell! RIP 48 year old guy. Right around the age to be leaving behind a wife and older children. And it sounds like he wasnt even the driver of the bus.

Obviously this 20 year old has some major issues. Hope he will go where he cant hurt anyone else for a very long time.

the international taser law states that only citizens of Japan are not allowed to carry a taser in japan

and since i am not a citizen i believe i am allowed to carry one.

If someone can show me proof of non citizens also not allowed to carry it, i'll gladly swap out a taser for a different self defense weapon i can carry

2 ( +2 / -0 )

i think i might as well go ahead and get a different self defence weapon and trash the taser

its not like i have ever had to use it, and i'd rather not get arrested

i've read about self defence with canes and umbrellas and stuff

unfortunately Anthony, some people are just like that. they throw their life away for nothing

Another nut case cracks, be warned people the nutters are on the loose, dont piss anyone off will ya they might just go off.

Some people need to be taught self control for a fact !

talk about anger management.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

These loonies are going knife crazy. Hachioji two days before and now this...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It was all just a "misunderstanding."

Kefka - I believe they are illegal.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

and since i am not a citizen i believe i am allowed to carry one.

You are asking for so much trouble by carrying an illegal weapon. Dont even try to argue semantics whether it is legit or not - oh boy, it aint.

So this kid kicked and chased a bus that beeped him? Umm, okay. Thats kind of creepy.

But then the anger festered so deep that, 5 days later he had to take a knife to a meeting and end a mans life who may have been paying off a house and seeing his kids through high school. Horrible.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

horrible, senseless tragedy. life is fleeting, folks. better make the most of it. also, taking some means of protection is best when you go into public. that, or a fast pair of legs.

Japan is an extremely safe country in terms of violent crime. It has a very low murder rate, and the majority of murders are domestic violence situations. Unfortunately, random killings by mentally unstable people happen everywhere, and Japan, a country of over 100 million people, will have them too.

and yet this is the 2nd day in a row with a brutal stabbing from someone who is allegedly mentally unstable

if they were so mentally unstable that they are unresponsible for their own actions, then how the heck are they getting their hands on these knives?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It doesn't matter if its the 2nd day in a row. If there was a stabbing everyday of the year, thats 365 murders a year, still the lowest murder rate in the world. In reality Japan has over 1,000 murders a year..in other words more than 2 a day...and guess what that is the lowest murder rate in the world.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I just don't know why I'm so paranoid about my safety so much here all the time more than other countries with a higher crime rate

Because you have been manipulated by the media. Dont worry though, millions of others have been too.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Exactly Dentshop, the media's job is to scare and lure you into watching the news, it is so funny though because after watching a whole hour of news about death and disasters, they always ended it with "a little trapped cat/dog was saved today and its name is Bonjyo" as if that will make you feel better, go figure man!

"20-year-old Hiroshige Morioka" It's good he will be treated as an adult and not as a minor. After he stabbed the driver, the drivers' coworkers put him on a 台車 (daisha) (cart?) and fled for about 200 meters, in the vicinity of Tennoji station. This looney kept chasing them about halfway.

Close by where i used to live in Osaka, i was at tennoji-eki almost every day.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

20?? Now an adult so let him hang!!! RIP Osaka bus company guy.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Doesn't this come about two days after a security guard was stabbed to death in Tokyo?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Another knife attack in Osaka~! Last year there were a few in the subway. Can't remember if they ever caught the woman doing it? Anyone know? Very sad though, 48 years young. Life imprisonment would surely be worse than the death penalty. The victims family & friends will suffer for life, so should he.

These absurd & crazy reasons for killing somebody are absolutely unbelieveable, it is like a WWW movie but with no guns, just knives.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

knife...again? yes. Murders by knives in Japan > murders by gun in USA.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

if thats the case, then i'll absolute get rid of it immediately. well.... immediately meaning the next time i visit my friends in Japan

ill do a little research and get something totally legal.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Was it really that serious!? idiot throws his life away at 20 years old for a honk of the horn.

Elbuda MexicanoSEP. 27, 2011 - 08:38PM JST 20?? Now an adult so let him hang!!! RIP Osaka bus company guy.

Not too far from where i live. Seriously Japan drives me insane, I'm 24/7 watch my back mode, protect yourself at all times mode in this country I really don't know why I've become this way. Gone totally paranoid. Anyone else or is it just me ?

I agree with Elbuda Mecian friend, this guy should hand for his crime. They get away too easy sometimes. See him get life and after a few years, back on the street. Will that be justice ?

He seriously has anger management issues. He uncontrollable anger has turned into a violent rage in which an innocent man was murdered brutally.

Imagine if this was in your own workplace at your company.

I know Japan is a really safe country, I just don't know why I'm so paranoid about my safety so much here all the time more than other countries with a higher crime rate. I can't figure this out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

at 20 years old, is he still a minor? even if he's not, if he apologizes, he'll be out in 10 years...with the same anger management issues and no skills.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tennoji is not the best place in Japan;lots of shady places and characters down there........

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It seems to be every autumn the nuts fall from the tree and start stabbing people. Although these incidents happen regularly in Japan, there definitely is a heightened regularity through September and October each year.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@TokyoGas

EXACTLY! which is why i bring a Taser with me where i go in Japan. I've never had to use it, but you know.... i read stuff like this and it just makes me paranoid

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And the murder rate has been decreasing every year for more than a decade, and the murder rate for young people (young people murdering others) is also decreasing.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And people wonder why i don't want to stay in Japan permanately

i like visiting Japan, i like visiting my friends who live in japan, but its people like Hiroshige that deter me from ever wanting to Live there as a permanent resident

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

People set off to work in the morning and work hard to support themselves and their families. The last thing their family expects is a knock on the door from a Polieman with the words : we regret to inform you:. How insanely cruel is this 20 year old with all of his life and future before him, to deliberately take away the life of a fellow human being. To Satoshi,s family and friends, heartfelt sympathy

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The sad reality is that I guess Japan has always had these crazy nut cases and maybe with the horrible economic situation now they are coming out of the wood work, so just better to have you random nut case RADAR on, and trust our instincts IMHO.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

i sometime wonder why the US Forces are base in Japan to defent japan from china and the like or the other way around!.. hmmmmmm....

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

What the f. Poor 20 year old guy probably didnt have anything to do with it and bamm death. Very very horrible way to go. Wish theyd hang this guy. and whats up with people just carrying knifes in public is it a trend or what?
