Osaka police arrest man over dumping of body parts in park

Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 57-year-old man on suspicion of dumping body parts in canisters in a park in Osaka earlier this month. The suspect, identified as Yasutaka Fujimori, has been charged with abandoning bodies.

On Aug 14, three metal canisters filled with decomposed body parts, including a severed head, three ankles, a pair of hands and bone fragments, were found in three locations in and near Higashikozu park in Tennoji Ward.

According to NHK, DNA evidence showed that the two dead bodies were those of Fujimori's wife Atsuyo, 52, and his son Nobuaki, 26. Fujimori reported them missing in 2006 and told police he hadn't seen them since.

what park?

Wow, if this guy did it, how long did he keep the dead bodies for, since 2006? That'd be straight up from a horror movie!

I actually was in Osaka the past 3 weeks, and Tennoji was right around the corner, so I'm glad they got him. But still, 2006? What the f..., horrible!

Didn't a witness say 2 people were seen dumping things? The guy was able to get away with murder for 5 years. I wonder how they found the guy.

If he did it then I m glad they got him - but what actually links him to the crime, other than the victims being his family? Surely the police must have something more on him that they are not revealing? I hope this is not going to be another massive miscarriage of justice just to get a conviction.

This is somewhat anticlimactic. I thought some cult was at work.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

That was fast work by the police. Good.

So HE reported his wife and son's remains missing, and HE also happened to toss away the body parts? And they only have him on abandoning body parts? Hopefully they are at least investigating the possibility he also murdered them.

SmithinJapan,

Just to clarify, reported his wife and son missing, not their remains, in 2006. Then somebody - the police think he did it - started depositing their remains around Osaka in 2011.

Also, on NHK they had a cute computer-graphic that showed what 'witnesses' saw: one van with three people - a woman was driving while two men sat in the back. Then one of the men carried the two canisters to where they were found.

Does this mean Fujimori will roll over on his two friends soon or that NHK was wrong?

The computer graphics had us all going and I must admit I appolise to the yakuza for fingerpointing and also congratulate the police. I hope some of the police-bashers can also get the courage to say good job Mr Plod.

The police always charge for abandonment of a body first. It allows them to hold the suspect for at least 3 weeks. Instead of charging for all likely crimes at once, they often draw it out to hold the suspect as long as possible while they gather more evidence and pressure the suspect to confess. Sometimes initial press reports from witnesses turn out so completely wrong that I wonder whether the police are planting inaccurate information to lower the suspects defences.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The suspect's defences, that is.

So the guy's wife and son are missing for five years, and the police suspect nothing odd about the man. Then their bodies turn up and slam, they arrest him. OOOOOkaaaay.

I am also wondering about their DNA being in a database. I suppose DNA tests on the body parts took about as long as I would expect in Japan, but the speed of matching it to known people means they must be in a database. I was not aware Japan did that for missing persons. And if they went that far I have to wonder how the husband/ father, if guilty, escaped suspicion.

I wonder if they have figured out how long the people have been dead? Seems a massive question. If they have been dead for five years, it would lean more toward the husband/father. But if they were just killed recently....

Asagao, its too early to apologize to the Yakuza. Remember the authorities are fallible anyway, and that seems especially true in Japan.

My wife told me that many at first thought the YAKS were involved when it was first reported long time ago. But now reports say they found out that he had wrapped them in old newspapers from 2005, and had them in a freezer for 5 years! Why would he go to a public place to throw away the remains? He must have wanted to be caught.

One Japanese magazine has questioned the placing of the body parts. It said they were put near places that are related to a religious sect. Was this sect the reason for whatever happened here?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Why would someone 5 years later place the body parts in a public place where they would readily be found? Maybe the Yaks or other underworld parties have a hand in this?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This is just too sick for my tiny brain to process.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I agree with mackemack, I am trying to figure out this news, but it is just sickening! Makes no sense to me, it is a Japanese thing? Hmm. Guess I am sick of my wife and son so I will kill them off, oh, yeah, I need to make some room so I will just put them out with the MOERU GOMI?? WTF??? RIP Wife and son and yes dirty old fart oyaji, please BURN IN HELL FOR ALL OF ETERNITY!

loitering is a bad thing!

@Juan

Murder (though seemingly not to you) is a 'horror' in itself.

People making sarcastic jokes here need a reminder:

If this were your wife, or your girlfriend or someone close to you, CHOPPED UP & dumped in various pieces.

Would you STILL be making jokes?

Low class, clearly.

"If this were your wife...Would you STILL be making jokes?"

No, I wouldn't waste Tennoji's park cleaning party with such a lame joke. I'd dump the bits a bit much further in the woods... He must have hated the neighbours.

Agree with jj1980...Sounds like he'd had enough of living with guilt and wanted to get caught. Otherwise, why a park?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Why a park.....can we say,"to frame him." If he felt so guilty that he wanted his crime to be known, why not just call the police?

Why would someone 5 years later place the body parts in a public place where they would readily be found? Maybe the Yaks or other underworld parties have a hand in this?

Contrary to what we might see in movies and tv, not all criminals are masterminds. They make mistakes from time to time as well.

" the two dead bodies were those of Fujimori’s wife Atsuyo, 52, and his son Nobuaki, 26. Fujimori reported them missing in 2006 and told police he hadn’t seen them since "

Well. Let the local constabulary figure that one out.

Asagao:

" I appolise to the yakuza for fingerpointing "

Don´t worry, that is a long standing tradition on this forum. Any crime, and someone will invariably do that.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

damn that's messed up... I thought they found some of the part from the smell? 2006 it wouldn't smell anymore I would think

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

In Japan many people still confess when told. I think it's a guilty til proven innocent formula. Well that's what I hear.

They have a new mall accross from Tennoji station called Q's Mall. It full of cuties, especially during the weekends. it's a must to visit!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Why would someone 5 years later place the body parts in a public place .......................................best serve by date expiration ?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

He obviously wanted to be caught so he started doing dumb stuff like dumping body parts in a public area.

1) DNA Check

2) Scan police reports

3) Go to house and find elbows and necks

If he wanted to get away with it, he would have done like my Great Grand-Pappy did and sell the body pieces to a crooked zoo keeper. What he does then is up to him.

Hey - Tennoji has a shady zoo...

Judge, jury an executioner all rolled into one you are. Didn't you see the part that said "suspicion of"?

Plus we all know how the bumbling idiots that make up the Japanese police like to beat confessions out of anyone just to secure a conviction.

The guy reported his relatives missing, and they later turned up dead. Seriously, it could happen to any of us. It's not like they found him drenched in blood with an axe in his hand. Here's a shocker for you... the guy may be completely innocent.

Another crazy man of Japan...

I heard on ANN that he's starting to hint that he did it. I like that word "仄めかす".
