Ozawa says aides' convictions 'unbelievable' in a democracy

Ummm, Ozawa-kun, it's BECAUSE the nation is a democracy that these men were found guilty. Having them let off simply because of some power-jockey who thinks he runs things would make it less so.

This quote makes me sick. Ozawa has done his darndest over the last two decades to eliminate any real form of democracy in Japan. Especially when it comes to foreigners living in Japan. Seems like Japan has a lot of laws that they are not even following themselves. Here we have the Japanese government implementing laws to protect the people, but the laws that they implement are not being enforced at all. Ozawa is one of those that act like he is following the laws of the land when behind closed doors, he is cheating everyone that he can cheat. What is interesting about this article is that being convicted or not could not under any circumstance be attributed to the presence of democracy or lack there of. It merely is a gage of the state of a nations jurisprudence.

Whatever we think about Ozawa and his aides, let's be careful. We all know about the 99% conviction rate in Japan. Did these guys really have a fair trial? And all we know about this case is through the press. Who controls the majority of the press in Japan?
