Police in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, are investigating the death of a woman whose partially skeletonized body was found in a mountain forest on Saturday. Police said a knife was protruding from her back, Fuji TV reported.

According to police, the body was found at around 4:20 p.m. Saturday by a man in his 40s who was riding his motorbike in the area.

An autopsy revealed that besides several stab wounds in her back, the woman had sustained bone fractures and that she had been dead for at least a week to 10 days.

Police said the woman appeared to be in her 20s. She was 163 cms tall and was wearing a black sweater, light blue pants but no shoes. Police said her clothes were not disheveled and there were no means of identification on the body.

Did anyone miss her and report her missing? How terrible, for someone so young to disappear unnoticed.

There's been a spate of bodies discovered in recent days/weeks. Perhaps 'the safety country' is not really as safe as people make it out to be. Yeah, petty crime is low and murders are not as common as in other countries. However, that in no way means it doesn't happen!

Its pretty much as safe as people make it out to be. Statistically speaking it's still one of the 'safest' countries in the world. Anyone who thinks that 'safe' means that these things don't happen at all is frankly, either too young to know any better, or simply naive.

Furthermore, the victims are usually children, women or the elderly. It would seem that, Japan is only a safe country for middle aged men.

Well, yeah. Again, statistically speaking, any country is safe for middle aged men if you try and compare the victim ratios of crime by gender. Physically, women are generally weaker, which means they're more likely to be targeted for crime. That's true anywhere in the world.

If you want to put this in perspective, (going by the latest data available) the US ha 17,250 homicides in 2016, Canada had 611 (considered a very safe country), Japan had 362.

All in all, this year is shaping up to be a pretty usual year. The only reason it seems like a lot, is because the news has been reporting on pretty much every single one of them. Also, its summer, statistically one of the times of year that has the most violent crime.

A recent article from July, states that Japans crime rate has been the lowest ever this year and its likely going to continue its downward trend, albeit on a more flat trajectory. Cram 127 million people into the space roughly the size of Montana (whose population is 1% ) and you're going to get violent crime. Its amazing its this low.

Poor kid, hope she is identified as quick as possible to give her parents some form of peace of mind and allow them to lay her to rest.

Sorry Disillusioned

Contradictory much?

She was a 24-year-old single mother from Niigata city. They are looking for a man she had a relationship with.

Poor girl. Rest in peace. And her poor child.

Yes, the poor woman and her child (or children, the report I saw didn’t specify the number of age/s). It seems they were living with her father. Perhaps he can raise the child. But I don’t know if he’s in a position to do that or not.

She must be on a missing person's list. The fact she was not wearing shoes points towards her being murdered in a home, which also points towards a jilted lover or domestic dispute. It should be too difficult to find the perp once she is identified.
