Patient bank robber arrested in Fukuoka

A man armed with a kitchen knife entered a bank in Munakata city, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Nov 2. Upon seeing the man, the clerk asked “What can I do for you?”

“Hand over the money,” he said quietly.

Then the clerk summoned all her years of training and experience as a bank employee and dealt with the intruder the best way she knew how. She asked him to take a seat on the couch and wait. The man politely agreed and took a seat.

After 10 minutes of waiting, he got tired of holding the knife and put it away in his bag. Just then, police rushed in and apprehended the man.

The 38-year-old was arrested for attempted robbery – really, really slow attempted robbery.

“I wanted to rob a bank, so I got a knife from the kitchen” he said, admitting his guilt. Source: News24 (Japanese)

I kind of feel sorry for this guy. He was probably just hard up for a little cash and didn't want to hurt anybody. He wanted to rob the bank, but his heart wasn't following.

Let the thumbs down fest begin....

Sounds like all this guy wanted was attention and probably wanted to get caught.

We all know what would happen back home in the "real world," this bank robber would not just sit down and take a number to wait for his big pot of $$$$, right? He or they would take somebody hostage, maybe knife somebody?? We are happy to hear no one was hurt nor killed, if the bank teller had panicked?? Yelled out and screamed, tasukete!! Way may have been reading a whole different news, right?? Congratulations on the quick thinking bank teller down there in Fukuoka, JAPAN!

Fantastic. And, strangely common. The simple fact of the matter is that most people who attempt to make a go at a life of crime do so because...well, they don't have the intelligence to make it in a more legitimate trade.

In the US, we had a show called America's Dumbest Criminals, highlighting this very phenomena. One of my favorites was the bank robber who was calmly informed by the teller that he needed an account in the bank prior to robbing it. He was apprehended by the police while filling out the paperwork.

This story is soooo Japanese. You have to live here to see how that actually can happen. Love it.

Winter is coming. He probably wants three squares, dry place to sleep, rehabilitation job training and placement, library, and an exercise yard in a safe place. Such the job market, we will see more of this.

Ah hu! What can you say to this? Glad no one was hurt. It seems many of these crims just wake up one morning and say, "I'm gonna rob a bank today." With no forethought of planning or consequences. I guess he'll get a suspended sentence too. Attempted armed robbery carries very hefty sentences in other countries regardless of circumstances.

Oh my god! I..I can't stop laughing at this! I wish all crimes were like this.

I apologize for the Re-post but they should give that bank clerk a damn promotion!

His first mistake.

Reading this made me smile a little bit.

What happened to the good old days when the bank robbers made the demands? The teller should have made him fork over his wallet and watch while she was at it.

You mean there's not a button on the ticket machine that says "Rob the bank"? And Japan is supposed to be such an organised country...

When I read this, I recognized it from somewhere. Then after a minute I realized where I remembered it from. This is how Russian banks treat you when you try to get a cash advance on your credit card. It took just about 10 minutes, too! Maybe she thought he was trying to get a cash advance? LOL.
