Kanagawa prefectural police said Wednesday that a 32-year-old police officer has been arrested for lewd conduct.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Naoya Hiratsuka, works at the Kohoku police station. TBS reported that Hiratsuka was caught loitering near a woman's apartment on the 3rd floor of a condominium in nearby Sagamihara at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Another resident noticed Hiratsuka and called police to report a suspicious person hanging around, TBS said. When police approached Hiratsuka, he tried to flee but was caught about 300 meters away.
Police said Hiratsuka has admitted to trying to look into women's bedroom windows.
A prefectural police spokesman said it was regrettable behavior for a police officer and said the police department will deal with the officer strictly.

.....and he is a police officer!

@SauloJpn
Why are you so surprised? Do you know anything about the perverted j-police? Cases like this seem to be very common here

@Mirai Hayashi
True, but I also think this policeman is a slightly classier classic pervert. He is actually taking the time and effort to look through these woman's windows. You don't that kind of creepy personal service nowadays. These days its all about stealing underwear from drying laundry or taking photos up skirts on escalators.
serendipitous
Saitama has the dodgy people but Kanagawa has the dodgy cops!
Cricky
Strictly? Is that fired, charged? Or made to write an apology? 100 times?
Dennis Bauer
@Cricky he is transferred to the Lewd investigation department because of his experience :P
Magnus Roe
Probably made to share any juicy stories and photographic evidence. :)

Poor guy! I hope that he gets help!

This is the same place the last Ohm freak turned himself in, after 15 years hiding in plain sight.

Maybe he has been forced to a stoic everyday life in order to be a police? We'd better to be a little generous.

Isn't it Peeping Taro in Japan?

Classy.
I suppose the NPA DON't bother with compatibility or psychological tests 'cause so many nutbags they seem to have innthe police force here makes me think they are not very good choosing candidates

"Strictly" means a 10% pay cut for three months, and a polite request not to do it again...

Slap on the wrists and promotion no doubt, the J police way..

It's obviously amusing to many to make fun of a cop being a peeping tom but cop or not, he'd likely have scared the hell out of anyone who caught him looking in on them. Besides that, while not all peeping toms, exhibitionists and underwear thieves end up as serial rapists, a large number of serial rapists start out with such "minor crimes" as voyeurism, underwear theft and exhibitionism. They are too often deemed "losers" incapable of doing anything more dangerous and thus, go on to commit more serious crimes when they gain confidence or no longer get a thrill from committing the lesser offenses. Many rapists admit in their statements to police that before they break into a home and rape a woman, they often scout out the home and her movements first. So, yes, it's all good fun to have a laugh at the policeman who got caught peeping in a woman's window but this type of crime should be taken very seriously particularly as he was a policeman, entrusted with protecting the public and in a position to take advantage of that trust. It's really quite frightening when you consider what he could have done or may have gotten away with in the past.

Just wonder if the guy was in uniform or in civvies. Might not matter but he could say he was checking on something suspicious.

Do police have to take a pervert exam to prove they are a suitable person for the job?
Tohka
I gotta say, as Elizabeth Heath said, is there a hidden set of criteria for applicants to the J-Police?
(like being as dirty as possible?)

The police department will deal with the officer strictly. Why is the reaction of the police when one of their own is arrested that they will handle the problem which is not the role of the police but that of the public prosecutors office and finally punishment in a district court. This raises big questions over impartiality and this officer should be handled in the same manner as any other Japanese under arrest. After the judicial process is exhausted and guilt is established, by all means fire the pervert.
Tessa
My thoughts exactly.
Japan really needs more female cops.
Cricky
There are female Police but they are on courses to learn how to apply makeup and talk to the public. The number of stories, many not on this site, really do cause concern about the Police culture. Never personally had issue with them, but I see them and change course just in case.
Lowly
about female police, I have seen a number of articles about them getting sexually harassed and raped by their male coworkers. not saying it never happens in my home country, but, just sayin'.
