It looks like the pet shop owner became a wild animal.

All sexual assaults should be severely punished.

For perspective though, let's remember that there are people here who commit murder and get sentences of 10 years or less!

If found guilty, thirty years would be a relatively light sentence for the repeated sexual violation of FOUR women.

Honda’s defense argued for acquittal, stating that the defendant and the women were in intimate relationships and that the sex was consensual.

Hard to think there is a defense team that would make this argument, one thing is to work for clemency for your client in an ethical way, another completely is to pretend an obvious crime did not happen by blaming the victims.

Just put him away for good - there's no rehabilitation for someone like that. He probably also mistreated the animals.

Or he had such control over them they couldn't quit nor escape, nor contact the police or somebody and had to comply to going back to his house for 4 years? Very often, victims of sexual assault go into survival mode and are unable to seek help or escape. It is very common to freeze up, be unable to defend oneself, and to only think about how to survive - that usually means enduring the assault in the belief that he won't kill you if you don't resist.

I see what you are trying to say, so like "if you say something, you're done, if you don't come back we'll hunt you, if you don't follow along, you're done. You belong to me or else."... kinda way?

Full physical castration plus the 30 years behind bars would be a good start for this violent and cowardly old rapist.

I hope the four women can one day put the memories of what this evil rapist inflicted on them behind them and live peaceful lives.

Reasonably sure the rapist is Japanese. Hard to deport Japanese from Japan, I believe.

Either way this make very little sense and without further elaboration, the story creates more questions than answers.

Lot of information is missing, I guess he was attacking these women one by one, over 4 years one woman each year, likely these 4 women did not know each other.

Maybe 3 women remained silent, but the last one did not and was reporting him to police, just my guess.

Anyway, to lock this dangerous man away for the next decade will be the best solution.

He might be sentenced for 4 crimes and the sentence will be served concurrently.

30 years is the maximum sentence I think. Likely however sentenced to 12 years ( 4x 3 years concurrently), which means out in 3 years or less, something like that - just my guess.

Seriously? Have you never heard of a pet store? Your use of "so-called" leads me to believe so.

Pet stores in Japan generally sell pets (dogs, cats, birds, rodents, reptiles, fish, and insects) and pet supplies (food and treats, habitats, clothing, bedding, grooming gear, health products, etc). Many also offer services such as grooming and boarding.

Basically, the same things sold at pet stores around the world. (Although, thankfully, in many states and municipalities in the US, dogs and cats are not allowed to be sold, only offered for adoption by rescue groups.) I can't believe you've never heard of pet stores.
