And why are teenage girls hanging out in Shibuya at night? Yeah I know, teenagers, BUT the problem is the parents not knowing where they are or what they are doing.

Instead of pandering to them, give them a kick in the butt and send them home!

Oh and how about kicking the arseholes that are a problem for these teens a kick in the arse too!

The parents and the children are the problem? Helping the children is pandering?

Many of the girls have been neglected by their parents due to poverty or are the victims of abuse. Some of them suffer from sexual violence committed by fathers or stepbrothers and others are shut out by their mothers' boyfriends."

Dont think that are being pandered to much. It's great that there are people willing to spend time to provide advice, listen and perhaps change these girls lives for the better. Hope can be hard to come by when you have none.

Yubaru didn’t you read the article? Some of them suffer sexual and physical abuse from parents or other adults in the house. They don’t want to go back there, and I don’t blame them.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

Difficult this one. I agree with all the above. If it saves just one person from the hell of abuse then it's worth it.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

A not insignificant number of these girls are very street-wise, and know exactly what they are doing (hoping to get scouted for lucrative AV gigs). Still, good to have this bus too.

No doubt there are naughty teen girls hanging around entertainment districts who don't have problems at home. These girls might need some tough love discipline from thier parents or police. But, as the article states, there are those whose home situation is difficult for them and they could do with a listening ear, support and guidance.

God bless these people.

A sensible approach to a difficult problem. Good luck to them.

If this is government sponsored, it sounds like a very good concept.

Where girls are, are often also where guys want to be, and bad people know this and take advantedge of it.

Sounds to me like Tokyo would need 50 such buses to crack a dent in the issue not 1!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Why not just arrest the men who sexually abuse girls and the "scouters" who work in public ?

is it a crime to be a girl and just go out without getting harassed?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

+thepersoniamnow nope. The government is absolutely corrupt, greedy and most importantly totally incompetent. Why would you want the government involved in anything? Especially when they're old Japanese men in suits who are the problem in the first place. I don't think these girls need any more involvement from dirty old Japanese men.

From the picture it seems kind of shady, a pink bus that just calls random girls in for free food? I'd think most of them would assume it was a fuzoku recruitment service or something like that, although maybe from another angle it's much clearer what the objective of the bus is. Either way it's good to have these kinds of services and make it appealing for the target market as I'd imagine most people are too scared or ashamed to seek out and visit these kind of crisis centers on their own.

Nice idea on the face of it.  hope it works.

Young girls hanging out in "entertainment" districts on school nights and weekends late into the night. Can't say I'm surprised or sympathetic that they're being picked up on by men who go to "entertainment" areas looking for drinks and entertainment.

If these girls are actually being abused at home, they should go somewhere besides places like Kabukicho and Shibuya to while away the night.

How about using that pink bus and driving these late-night party girls home? Face it, most of these girls are out for a good time and not being abused.

So please show us the studies that show what this 'not insignificant' number is. Because I'd bet a dollar to a donut that you literally have no idea what the number is, have never researched what that number may be, and actually have no idea whatsoever if your comment is even correct, rather you just decided that because you've seen girls in porn, some 'not insignificant number' of girls in Shibuya must want to do it. I am entirely sure that your comment is entirely fabricated, and not actually based in any real numbers .

Woulda, shoulda, coulda. These girls should be in nice homes where they don't get out on the street. After that 'should' is gone, there are no more. The only place the should be is at home. If they aren't there, then there isn't a place where they 'should' be. Shibuya, with friends and support is as good a place as any.

You're a special kind of stupid aren't you. You do realize that all the places that offer stuff to do for these girls who can't go home until the wee hours of the morning are red light districts. Those are pretty much the only places that have businesses open after 12am. And how do you suppose they go anywhere else when the trains stop running? Try being a bit more sympathetic, the people around you will surely appreciate it.

Kudos to Nito-san for bringing this to Japan. It is commendable someone takes ACTION to do something positive like this

7 ( +8 / -1 )

This sounds like a wonderful idea, but just one night a week?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Nothing wrong with the pink bus per session, but if you really want to help these kids, how about 1) raising the minimum wage for legit work to a living wage and 2) shutting down the pink shops that employ the kids in prostitution?

*per se

Johnny Randall

Tx for the anti government rant.

What I meant is...if this is a gov sponsored initiative...it’s quite good. It’s intelligent, I wouldn’t have expected that from the government. I would have expected a day time support center that closes at 7pm to be honest.

No, they aren’t ALL corrupt man, and most of us want to see ladies protected and respected. They are our sisters, mothers, and children after all!

So kawabegawa. In other words you have no facts to back up your claim

if you have seen Ushijima Kun Loan Shark:

https://youtu.be/PB5Oelakp5w

It shows the sad reality of people who obtain loans fromlan sharks and then pressured to do such jobs or appear in AV to pay ludicrous interests on top of their debts.

Athough this film and series is fiction, it has a dark reality also here.

Yakuza are very dominant here.

to protect them from being sexually exploited

I think is a brilliant idea although, it is saddening that it is necessary. I don’t think the responsibility of protecting young girls from sexual exploitation should fall into a group of volunteers in a bus.

Certainly better than leaving it to the government, who would spend 100 times more and probably make the problem worse. Volunteers are exactly who should be doing this, instead of the usual "let the government do something."

weirdos can hang out near the pink bus and chat up girls as they are coming or leaving - Hi there, would you like some help? Let's have a talk...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Very good.

Where was the press on all these gropers and weirdos before this? How is it that all of a sudden.... presto, we need these Pink Buses. You never seem to get actual statistics in Japan and no one seems to be talking about them. You get the numbers behind benign things like old people shoplifting and foreigners caught doing something. But when it comes to airing actual Japanese dirty laundry.... well.... one day we wake up to "Pink Buses". No increasing trend.... just Pink Buses all of a sudden.

Interesting idea. I hope the girls who legitimately are escaping from a bad situation get the counseling they need.

But one has to wonder why they go to those areas, likes moths to a flame. Surely, they know exactly the type of people that hang out there. Is the pay that much higher than at working at your standard part-time job?

sad

Look at the social and cultural problems going on.

Short answer? Yes.

As for why they go there, wandering kids go where the action is. And teenagers in general tend to think they are far more worldly wise than they actually are.

Not just kids. Humans.

Members of civic group Colabo are on hand to offer advice to the girls.

That's great that this group made a step forward to help those less fortunate. At least there is hope available to those girls. It is also great that someone decided to try something that worked somewhere else might work in Japan. I sure hope this succeeds.

This is a good thing that Yumeno Nito started ... Good Luck with the program and I do hope it helps many of the young women who are troubled.
