The Police Academy in Fuchu, Tokyo, which trains new officers for the Metropolitan Police Department, hosted its first ever Open House on Sunday.
Declining numbers of academy applicants have plagued the institution in recent years, so officials created the event with the intent of attracting students in the midst of considering future job prospects, TV Asahi reported Monday.
Attendees were given a special opportunity to learn about the many aspects of working with the Metropolitan Police Department through various activities including forensic fingerprint collection, disaster relief and private security training seminars.

A bold move for the notoriously secretive Japanese police force. At a place I once taught, the local police were taking lessons and we had to keep it a secret from even the other teachers. If they can't even admit they're taking English classes, you have to wonder what else they get up to...

With queues forming up outside Jieitai recruiting stations, they've got to do something to attract new recruits.
