Police have arrested a 48-year-old jazz musician over a hit-and-run incident last month in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward, in which a 9-year-old boy sustained severe injuries.
According to police, on June 6, Yoshimi Mikami is suspected of hitting the boy with his car and then fleeing the scene, Fuji TV reported. The boy sustained severe cranial injuries and was in hospital for a month.
The boy had been returning home with his mother when, upon avoiding a car that was parking, he was hit by Mikami who then fled the scene. Eye witnesses reported Mikami's license plate number to police.
Mikami was quoted by police as saying he had noticed the boy collapsed on the pavement and thought he might have been hurt, but thought that it was not of his own doing, and therefore drove off without thinking too much further.

Cold hearted SOB, sees a kid collapse and doesnt do a damn thing to assist. Not too much humanity in this guys blood.
(Oh and btw Mikami, any decent human being would stop to assist a child in need, you KNEW it was your fault and you turned coward.)

Why is hit-and-run so common in this country?

Unbelievable! On second thought.....
Too many selfish people just care about themselves.
shallots

Hit-and-hit is common in every country. They are becoming more common in the U.S., for example.

He is cold hearted for hitting him, kept going then lied about it.
If he was just some random boy collapsed on the street, probably 90% of motorists wouldn't do a damn thing about it.

He thought it was easier to get leniency for "not stopping to help" than for hit and run.
