A 46-year-old Saitama prefectural police officer has been arrested on suspicion of groping a woman on a train.
According to police, Toshiharu Wakatsuki, an inspector with a mobile tactical force, groped the 28-year-old woman's behind at around 11:40 p.m. Friday between Ikebukuro and Omiya stations, Fuji TV reported.
The woman grabbed Wakatsuki's arm by the sleeve and held onto him until they arrived at Omiya Station. She then called for station staff to help her.
Police said Wakatsuki has admitted to the charge but said he was drunk at the time.

ROFL, "I was drunk so that makes everything okay"
David Blue
I can't imagine how much liquor it takes to make doing that ok? If she was a willing participant smelling liquor would be enough.
BurakuminDes
It really seems like many police officers here exist in a permanent state of drunken-ness! Throw the book at the creep, sack him and strip him of all his pension.
ARTTISAN
Ah the famous Saikyu Line or Syco Line to Saitama!
Of course it is a drunken 'policeman' many times who commit this awful attack on women. In training they must know the affect this has on a person. It is horrendous and something that can affect them for the rest of their lives. I really do not understand why they do this. There are Image Clubs where you pay to choose your sordid fetish, For this scum I bet off the menu it would be OL on a train with handcuffs. Now he has the cuffs I hope,

It's like JT crime bingo ... 'Police' ... 'Groper'.... 'Saitama'.... 'Drunk at the time' BINGO !
SenseNotSoCommon
An inspector, no less? Good on the woman for grabbing him.
Mirai Hayashi
When do these police officers ever learn???
Dan Lewis
He should've run down the train track to get away.
Strangerland
What makes you think it makes everything ok?
Moderator: Sorry, no harassing of readers (as you have been repeatedly cautioned about).

where's our cop supporter, Cleo?

The old "I was drunk" excuse. Saitama is the crime capital of Japan.
Simon Phillips
was going to say that and with the news of such cases that have happend within a week this police officer would have had a clue
theeastisred
If we ever wondered what 'mobile tactical force' meant, now we know!
Wakarimasen
The 'satsu story that has it all. satsu, groping, saitama, drunk.....
Strangerland
If he was innocent yes. If he's actually guilty, then we should be glad he didn't.
I've never seen an example of this myself, do you have any links to show it happening previously?
tmarie
Now imagine a woman actually had to make a formal complaint to this guy. Think he would have taken it seriously? Nope. Fire him, charge him and post his picture everywhere.
gogogo
He was drunk, the standard JP excuse to justify your actions.
MsDelicious
Maybe Japan should make alcohol illegal.
MsDelicious
Are there ways to prevent this drunkenness and lewd actions of men on women? Yes there is. Make alcohol illegal.
pacint
And at the same time force all womdn to wear a Burka, e etc.
Let's not get into the antics of drunk women. ;)
ThePBot
Before I read this article, I was ready to type a sarcastic post about "something something I was drunk". Well, well.
sensei258
More like some good-natured ridicule from his coworkers, a slap on the back, and a 10% reduction in pay for three months.
Alex Einz
nothing out of ordinary.. drunk, police and groper... business as usual... maybe he was making sure nothing was illegal with her behind?
DaDude
Nowadays you are either groped or the groper. I recommend folks to get a bicycle or motorcycle/car license.
bjohnson23
Women have gone overboard on this subject. She should be glad that someone was even interested and perhaps then the country would not be facing a shortage of future pension payers/population decline. Women have become too sensitive in Japan, else their would not be a decline in births.
lostrune2
Hope that nice piece of was worth it for him since it'll cost him
Mirai Hayashi
No...he forgot to say the most important part: "I don't remember anything"....but of course, since he is a police office, he will either be granted immunity or a suspended sentence
Disillusioned
It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "The long arm of the law!"
Lock him up!

Alistair: "It's like JT crime bingo ... 'Police' ... 'Groper'.... 'Saitama'.... 'Drunk at the time' BINGO !"
Perfect comment! You hit it right on the head.
Another of Japan's finest keystones.

Why does everyone think when it's reported the perpetrators were drunk that they are using this as an excused justify their actions? It's just part of the facts. I highly doubt the conversation went as such: Police - What happened? Victim - He groped me! Perp - it wasn't my fault, I was drunk.
More like - Police - what happened? Victim - he groped me! Police - were your drunk at the time? Perp - very.
I've never seen any JT story that quoted the perp as saying "I was drunk so it's not my fault."
It's just part of the facts of the case.
Monozuki
If such was the case, I imagine he was like he'd want to bury his head in shame when he sobered up and got arrested as he was supposed to catch others. It was like putting the cart before the horse.
Strangerland
Yeah, I've brought this up multiple times on the site. But the posters here somehow think that being drunk will get a perpetrator excused for their crime. Hopefully they never try this excuse themselves with that expectation, because they'll quickly learn that it doesn't excuse them from anything.
talaraedokko
Like usual. No one is responsible. I guess if I wasn't to commit a crime I just have to confess I was drunk.
Easy.
Hm. Never thought about that one.
Strangerland
What are you talking about? He'll be held responsible. What makes you think he wouldn't be?

Railway police patrole boost late time train's in side checking and protection for railway passengers i hope never again dosn't this is incident like that i love nihon great japan
sandiegoluv
Why is it that people get on here and always act like the guy saying he was drunk is being used as an excuse, as if it will somehow lessen the punishment for the crime or as if somehow the judge is going to say, "Oh, well. That is different. We won't punish you just as harshly then cause you were not of your right mind?"
And by the way, haven't you people act like that is being used as an excuse ever been drunk and done something monumentally stupid or seen someone else do something stupid? Did the consequences change at all? Of course not.
He should be punished just like if he were sober and will be. There will not be any walking away from this unscathed anymore than if he were sober. He's a pig. He should be punished and being drunk should and will have NOTHING to do with it. It is just a fact of the case.
frenchosa
Not that they should use their own cars, but people shouldn't use public transportation when they are drunk... They are a nuisance to others and crimes like this can easily happen... How about taking a taxi or riding a bicycle...
potigolo
Is he pleading not guilty while groping a woman??? He was so foolish!!!
Nippori Nick
Have we not heard all this too many times before. A copper, too drunk to remember but not overly drunk enough to become disinterested in groping.
toshiko
He is a cop but don't know punk gives additional sentence, especially in public.
Aaron Brummett
Not defending his actions... but where are all the "victim blamers" who usually troll these articles?
