Police officer arrested over sexual assault of minor whom he met online

Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 26-year-old police officer on suspicion of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 16, whom he met on social media.

According to police, Kiyotaka Edakawa, a police officer in Takaishi, is accused of having non-consensual sex with the girl, knowing that she was under the age of 16, in a car in the parking lot of a commercial facility on the morning of June 16, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said Edakawa first contacted the girl on a social networking site (SNS) earlier this year and that they had met several times prior to June 16.

Police said Edagawa, who was arrested on Friday, lied about his occupation when he was with the girl, telling her he worked in the construction industry.

The alleged sexual assault came to light in late June when the girl told her family what had happened. Her family contacted police to file a complaint.

Hironori Tsugawa, head of the Osaka Prefectural Police Inspection Office, said: ”This is an unspeakable act for a police officer and is truly regrettable. We will take strict action based on the results of the investigation.”

The myth of girls and women lying and falsely accusing men of sexual assault is pervasive and harmful and significantly overstates the frequency of false allegations....

Research shows false allegations constitute only 2% to 5% of cases.

False allegations are much higher than 2 % or 5 %, but only few cases with proven malicious intent by the 'victim' will be sent to the prosecutor.

Only in truly extreme cases the female false accuser will face jail time, like this woman in Korea.

Woman convicted of multiple false accusations of rape, sexual assault

Otherwise nobody cares about men, this is a good example about Japan

Here’s me thinking that there was sort of a higher standard when becoming a cop?

That assumption would indicate that other, lower standards were acceptable, and people could, depending on their status, legally date underage, non-consenting children.

I'm unsure how "research " could show the percentage of false allegations.

I know in Australia , conviction rates for rape cases are not very high.

Idiots are everywhere. He lost his job. It's going to be very very hard to find new job

Seems you feel more sorry about the cop than the girl.

This story is written without any details and provides no insite at all. Girls 15 look and act 20 plus here when it’s in their benefit. Not excusing him but people lie all the time and many lie for money or other reasons. Both sexes do it. So on this a lot of sting him up comments or poor her victim without any info at all. Carding and ID’ing each other is your practice posters? Let’s use some common sense that people don’t do that and this story lacks any substance at all and is no boarder line journalism justice.

The myth of girls and women lying and falsely accusing men of sexual assault is pervasive and harmful and significantly overstates the frequency of false allegations. I encourage you to refrain from promoting it.

Research shows false allegations constitute only 2% to 5% of cases. This false belief about girls lying overshadows the reality that sexual assaults are in fact significantly underreported, with many victims fearing they won't be believed.

The myth contributes to victim-blaming and discourages victims from reporting assaults, perpetuating a cycle of silence and impunity for perpetrators.

A lengthy term behind bars and testi removal seems the adequate punishment for this deviant. Police need to check his devices, no doubt a porn addict maybe avén child stuff

Regardless of her age, regardless of what else may have occurred, she is a minor and the adult is responsible for his actions. The age of consent is there for a reason. He has no acceptable reason.

In my life in SNS, I've come into contact with minors once and that's a family member. Meaning, it's really difficult to meet minors over SNS, at least on the Meta owned ones. So how do these people always get to go around finding their underage victims over SNS all the time? Maybe they're posing as minors too? Or the minors pose as adults?

Maybe she told him she was 18 and then "withdrew her consent" after the fact.

She was underage.

That's the offence.

Cant consent to sex if under age.

In reality, she may have consented at the time...but because of her age she is prevented from being able to consent.

I look forward to Yubaru's take lol not really.

These types of things are to be expected considering the amount of time teenagers spend on social media especially Line Voom! The videos uploaded by many of them is just beyond believe!!!
