I would have had more respect for him if he just calmly said "I wasted the money on a lavish lifestyle."

The episode has shocked the national political scene where corruption has been a perennial issue.

I'm shocked at how the police are handling this case as this kind of funds abuse is rampant and ALL laws pertaining to use of our tax money by lawmakers is written in ways to allow loopholes the size of a blackhole.

If I were him, I would have a private conversation with the people who versed him, probably the same crowd that demanded his resignation and gave the go-ahead to the J-cops to pick him up, on how the system works and threaten to take them all down too if the police didn't back off and it all didn't just quietly go-away. I would even go so-far as to threaten to write an expose on how the whole political scamming goes on, expose the true extent of the misuse of taxpayer's money by politicians and their political organizations and make it my life-long crusade to put an end to ALL such practices.

Although this guy is a complete and utter tool, all politicians do it and the hypocrisy shown by the police and how they always pounce on the nail that sticks out needs to be addressed. Hey J-police, hold everyone accountable to the same standards.

The ex-politician reportedly told officials that he had “deleted all data” on the trips from his personal computer and that he could not remember them at all.

Yeah, he didn't go to onsens at all! It is more likely he squandered the cash in girly bars. He says he deleted the data from his computer, but windows computers contain a folder that shows every website the computer has been to regardless of clearing the browser history. It shouldn't take the cops long to figure out where he cash went.

There will be records at the internet provider servers as well.

I guess you reap what you sow

I didn't know that. What is the name of this folder?

It's your browser history, it's only a "folder" if you use IE. Other browsers log it to a file. You can clear it anytime you like, but of course it doesn't really matter.

If he was going that regularly to the same station, more like a girlfriend than girly bars, Disillusioned.

wailing uncontrollably and banging his fists on a desk as tears streamed down his face

I have watched the video and he was indeed "wailing" and banging his fists on a desk but I didn't notice one single tear, let alone "tears streaming down his face"... Reminded me of when I was a kid, trying to cry for some obscure reason and being told : "Those are just crocodile tears"...

albaleo - Have a look at this link for info on the hidden internet history folder. Luckily, not many wives know it exists. :P

It isn't your browser history. He's referring to the "shadow copy". According to microsoft this is just a backup copy designed to help you restore your computer in case of a crash, but if you actually browse through it you'll find that it also contains fairly regular screenshots of what you were working on at the time, a full record of all sites you visited (even if you deleted them from your browser history), and times backups of the contents of your hard drive.

It is clear NOT there just to help in case of a hard drive crash. You can clean up all but the most recent copy using accessories > system tools > disk cleanup, but it is hard to completely disable and has a habit of reactivating itself even after deactivation.

I don't mind so much, for me it mostly just captures boring screen shots of papers I'm working on, but occasionally I use my home PC to review patient files I'm asked for an opinion on, and of course I sometimes do online shopping and don't want a screenshot of my credit card number there waiting for the first piece of malware that slips past my firewalls and anti-virus programs.

So clearing your browser history is just a starting point for those who are really security-conscious.

I think he should just pay the miss spent money back to the tax payer, (with interest) Then get a job as an actor on the TV, on a trashy soap program, lets face it he's a good actor!!!
