Why do they always put the person's nationality in the headlines? But if it were a japanese man or woman, they just put "man" or "woman".

Other than that, this story sounds like it could be a bigger story if it were to be looked into. I'm sure there are many other companies in kahoots.

Because this being Japan, it can be assumed the person is Japanese, so for those who do not fit into that assumption, they clarify where the person is from.

Korean residents in Japan

they are residents so this is racism.

Mystifies me how anyone can be "Pro Pyongyang" and also how these known sympathisers and financial supporters are allowed to carry on with their activities and businesses when there is all the ruckus about sanctions and military action and so on.

Oh here we go.... You people are like a broken record. Simply reporting facts is NOT racism.

If you know anything at all about the history between Japan and Korea you would not need to be mystified.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of ethnic Korean's living and working in Japan.

The mystery is thousands of Korean workers were "compelled" to work in Japan for no pay no way to leave. Those that survived were released but 70 years latter generations after living their whole lives, being schooled in Japan, still, due to rasism and their unacceptable presents in Japan are treated as a foreign entity. Not hard to see why they turn to a country they have never been to when the country of their birth rejects them.

Zainichi are exempt from taxes, but still eligible for social benefits such as health care and welfare.

They do not have voting rights, but they are permitted fast track citizenship. Except they choose not to and have their cake and eat it at the same time.

But why don't they become pro-Seoul? The same animosity exists between South Korea and Japan. Instead they support one of the nastiest dictatorships in history.

But why don't they become pro-Seoul?

I would imagine it's because they are not from South Korea.

Yubaru

you are right, I know nothing at all about their shared history.  however my statement still stands.  Ethnic Korean doesn't necessarily mean "Pro-Pyongyang".  And allowing any such Pro DPRK outfits to continue operating in Japan seems odd in the light of the noise about sanctions etc etc.....  Or you don't think so?

North or South Korean taxes, possibly. Certainly not Japanese taxes.

Yes, and to add to that fact. A few North Korean schools are set up here in Japan. I might add too. The one in Kitakyushu has an excellent English program. The students killed it at speech contest I witnessed.

You’re right. Defacto tax exemption seems to have ended in 1999 after a high profile case. However they still enjoy reduced (avg 50%) resident, corporate and property taxes.

North Korean schools are also the subject of ultra low price or free land deals and leases, similar to Moritomo Gakuen.
