Police renew appeal for help over murder of 'gyoza king,' shot dead in Kyoto in 2013

Police in Kyoto on Sunday renewed their appeal for help from the public over the murder of the president of a gyoza restaurant chain who was shot dead eight years ago.

Takayuki Ohigashi, 72, was found bleeding and unconscious in a parking lot in front of the headquarters of his company, Osho Food Service Co, at around 7 a.m. on Dec 19, 2013. He was bleeding from at least three wounds, with spent cartridges left at the site, and died later in hospital.

On Sunday, company employees placed flowers at the scene of the murder. At nearby JR Yamashina Station, police officers handed out flyers, seeking the public's help.

Ohigashi was president of the Gyoza no Osho (King of Gyoza) chain, operating more than 650 restaurants throughout Japan, as well as a handful abroad. He was reputed to be a popular businessman who turned around the once-struggling restaurant chain.

Media have speculated that his murder may have been carried out by a crime syndicate.

Anyone with any information about the murder is asked to call police at 0120-08-9110.

“Media have speculated that his murder may have been carried out by a crime syndicate”…. who could have guessed?

Perhaps he had stopped paying off the Yakuza their "protection money".

RIP Gyoza King.

8 years have passed and now they're asking for help?

Seems a little late. I sometimes got problems recalling what happened 2 weeks ago

This is Japan. They are late to everything.

The only thing keeping Japan together is a hard-working average Japanese citizen. The leader ship is corrupt.

They know the name of the female assassin. A Chinese national who came to Japan the day before the murder and left the day after. Mr Gyoza employed some Chinese gangsters to do some work for him in China then refused to pay. He was warned of the consequences but still didn't pay up. The Chinese made good on their threat. Why the police are continuing with this pantomime is the mystery.

Three shots and he was still alive? And brass cartridges left at the scene? Not exactly the work of an experienced professional.
