Serendipitous, my initial reaction was the same, but he is innocent until proven guilty and even if he is eventually proven guilty I have no problem with his rights being protected and him being subject to due process, if not for him then to ultimately protect the rights of everyone in Japan, once you start down the slippery slope of abrogating the rights of those you dislike, where does it end? Usually with you!

Absolutely correct. At this time the law / rule of law in Japan is under scrutiny. Due process of law must be followed correctly despite natural instincts.

My first thought was why even question the guy he is totally busted every which way. His admittance and even referring to receiving a death sentence pretty much should seal the deal. However there is a process, in this case will be swift along with the final judgement.

Oh Boy! when I first read this article, I had two thoughts, 1; is why treat him? 2; how much is this costing? but on the other hand he need to be arrested, charged, and he need to go to court to explain him self in front of a jury. I think he need only to be made well enough so he can stand trial. IF he's innocent then he can proceed with further treatment.

Police start questioning arson-murder suspect

What is there to question? Nobody, including the perp himself, denies that he committed mass murder.

The man who commited this atrocious crime must be properly judged by the japanese court.

One of my favourite anime is from Kyoto Animation, Full Metal Panic, I've watched all seasons until now.

Kyoto Animation Ganbatte!

Seems like a waste of time and money to treat his burns.....A spinkle of salt and a splash of pure alcohol every morning, noon and night for the next 50 years would be more appropriate.

Even 36 consecutive life sentences or death by hanging is not enough to pay for his gruesome crime. However the family members of the 36 victims who lost their lives plus the 33 persons who survived need to know the reason why they have to undergo these horrendous experience. I think the whole nation is anxious to know too.

Capital Punishment. He must atone for The 36 he has killed, murdered and their families/friends lost. Unforgivable.

my initial reaction was the same, but he is innocent until proven guilty

That's all fine and dandy if the defendant pleads "not guilty," but in this case, he has admitted guilt, with dozens of witnesses to prove his guilt. So then why go through with the charade? Hang him and get it over with.

I think the death penalty for Aoba is not enough, as well as unimaginative. Make him go before endless meetings and conventions of anime fans to explain his wretched self until he dies.
