A plainclothes policewoman grabbed a man trying to grope her as she dozed on a train in Kanagawa Prefecture, police said Monday.
According to Yokosuka police, the incident occurred at around 7:10 a.m. Sunday on a Keikyu Line train between Oppama and Shioiri stations. Sankei Shimbun reported that the 27-year-old policewoman, who was on her way to work, was dozing when she felt someone touching her thighs. She awoke and grabbed the arm of Takahiro Yamada, 68, a resident of Miura City, who was sitting beside her.
The policewoman held onto Yamada until the train reached the next station, while another passenger called 110. Yamada was handed over to police at the next station. Police said he has admitted to the charge.

Tried to cop a feel, but ended up feeling a cop and getting his collar felt.

One just doesn't start at age 68 to grope women on the trains. I imagine that he has had a long history of doing this. It's about time that he was caught. Who knows, he may have been caught before and it wasn't reported. His family should not be stained, it is him and him alone who is the one who should carry the shame of being convicted of this crime. He is a grown man and is responsible for his actions, not his family. He's old enough to know better.

Imagine if he had been a cop too.. That would have been just hilarious.

Good for her! I wish more Japanese women can take her lead! Far too often the women just go complacent and just allow it because by retaliating would cause a disturbance around others. Don't be blind to what is clearly an act of sexual assault and harassment.

And another seemingly respectable life will end in disgrace and staining his family. Why the lack of control? Why the impulsivity? All for what?

I guess he didn't know he's supposed to first ask, "Are you a cop? You gotta tell me if you're a cop."

In Japan it will be wise if a majority of cops are female. Compare numbers of cop stories on JT crime section of police stories,,

You make a reasonable point, but I think there's another way to look at it as well. Sometimes as people get older, they feel a sense of entitlement, or of being "above the rules." When I'm on the train station platform waiting in line to get on the train, it's always 60+ year-old women who skip to the front of the line and race to grab open seats, elbowing anyone who gets in their way. You almost never see that kind of behavior from someone in their 30's or 40's, for example. Certainly that's a very minor offense compared to groping a stranger, but there might be a similar starting point in their mindsets - "I'm at a point in my life where I'm just going to take what I want." It's impossible to say for sure - just throwing another theory out there.

Just plain stupid

A lot of these old men are really, really nasty. I became friends with this rich old guy, got to know his wife, came over several times, even had the family over for some tea, and one time, (his wife was gone) he tells me (and my wife who was with me at the time) that he would like me to allow him to f-- her, and then making the motions for that. We needless beat a hasty retreat, so I learned that when you meet such people, no matter how nice and cultured they are (like this guy), they are thinking ONLY one thing about your own wife, so beware!!! And never leave her alone with any of them for a minute too!!

Must have been a shock to his system to find out she was a satsu.
Yukiii
Exactly I understand he should have long long history about his guilty.

Good on this woman, and shame on the man. Even though she was a police officer, I hope she would have spoken out otherwise, and I hope other women have the courage to do the same, and that they have the support of those around them (literally and figuratively).

IF he gets prosecuted, why don't they put up a poster in some of his local train station? this poster can say XXXsan was caught touching a woman, the poster can say look if you go around touching, filming, lifting up skirts etc, we WILL arrest you we will shame you! don't do it! Iam sure news will get around and these sort of attacks on girls and woman will dramatically drop.
TheRat
Nothing, we were simply TOO shocked to hear such garbage out of him--yes someone sitting at a bar would be yelled at, but this guy was angel, well accomplished, well traveled, extremely cultured, rich, etc etc etc, so we realized that this was what he was thinking about ALL the time when we were there. And he is around 70!! You would think desire would cool down, you know, so many people are probably saying the SAME thing about this groper too!! So moral--never let your girlfriend or wife out of sight with any middle-aged or old man, ever. I doubt he would have said the same thing to a Japanese couple though.

Usually the other way round. ie our finest boys in blue shoving their hands up someone's dress.

What kind of sentence is given to perverts?
Meiyouwenti
If he is a first-time offender, he will most likely get a suspended sentence.
genjuro
I've seen this behavior as well. Just for fun, have you tried bumping into them (I was about to write "bumping them off" but that sounds a bit extreme) and claiming your seat that you properly queued for? Then you can glare at obaachan back with a smile on your face.
Of course, if you're a proper Western gaijin that would probably not be worth trying. If you're Asian and can pass for a Japanese, it should make for an interesting social experiment.

He copped it, fair and square!

I'd bet there wiill be more female employed as cops in future. Shortage of employable people in Japan. pretty soon Japan will complain shortage of female cops.
Gaijin Desi
I spent more than 10 years in Japan and belive me all type of services are available in Japan. But you need to shell out some bucks to get it. There is no need to grope, hop, overlap anyone forcefully.
Sapporodenki
Would actually have expected a bit more affirmative action from the Police woman. A few karate chops and her marching him in a headlock to the slammer along the main street?
Monozuki
Haha. It's like seeing a kind of comedy or burlesque show if you like.
MarkG
Too many arrogant pervs around.
theeastisred
If she was asleep though, how does she know what he was doing? An interesting twist on the, "I was drunk and don't remember anything!" line, as it now applies to the victim and not the accused!
