A prison guard in Sapporo has been arrested for taking secret photos of a 17-year-old girl's legs with a smartphone attached to his shoe.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Toshihiro Sato, 42, approached a schoolgirl in a bookstore in a mall in Chuo Ward at around 6 p.m. on Saturday, NTV reported.

The girl, who was wearing shorts, was reading a book when Sato came up behind her. A store security official noticed Sato and detained him.

Police said Sato was on duty Saturday and came to the store during his break.

Pretty sure he wasn't trying to film her "legs".

A smartphone on his shoe, seriously?

How obvious could he be? I wish there was a photo of this as it sounds ridiculous.

I wonder what the security official must have thought when he saw a man with a phone tied to his shoe?

Filming legs?! What is this? 1923? Does that really do it for anybody?

He might have been 42 on paper but mentally, he sounds like a kid, attaching a phone to his shoes. Makes me feel good to know that they hire people like this to take care of prisoners. Doesn't at all lower the quality perception of Japanese public institutions...

Way to extrapolate one man's actions to the millions of good, hard working employees.

I would estimate that at least three of these pervert with a camera/device on shoe stories appear in the news in any given year.

They always remind me of the Pee Wee Herman skit where he attaches mirrors to his shoes to see up a friend's skirt when she comes to visit. That was meant to be juvenile humor — but not for some obviously.

Escalator weirdos are just as bad.

Welcome to the other side of the bars sato.

The headline says camera in the shoe but the article say smartphone attached to the shoe. If it was just a Samsung galaxy strapped onto his shoe with a rubber band, then he gets an F for effort.

Hey, it's bad enough they have one guy like this, and knowing the Japanese societal preference for hentai, I strongly suspect there are a bunch of people like this joker, just waiting to jump out.

Even among your "hard working" people.

Wouldn't it be great if phones were not so smart and people were?

Nothing new, here. Pretty par for the course. I'm surprised it made the news. Sad, really, as there are so many nice people, here. Time for a paradigm shift in the way Japanese society works. The soul crush creates guys like this.

By the way, what is the reason for his arrest ? If I intentionally wear some clothing suggesting you can see way more under a certain angle, isn't that shocking you ? It is life that (dumb)people are so dumb to show it obviously. Millions of videos on internet where people did not get caught. LOL.
