This kind of crime lead to huge losses, unemployment, especially among those working in small companies and self-employed, and suicide. Life in prison for all of them.

This is of course a very good development and I hope the criminal is punished properly, but somehow I doubt this is such a major blow for groups specialized in ransomware. It never seems like the infrastructure is so hard to replace and as long as most of the group is still free someone else will come to organize them later, they make huge amounts of money so the vacuum is not going to last long.

Of course, I would be very glad to be wrong.

No word about who was targeted, average innocent people, or the evil and corrupt thieves and murderers running corporations and government.

So I cannot know if I should cheer or sneer.

As it is enforcing the rule of law, and taking down those who stole that which wasn't there, any moral person would approve.

string of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure across the world, including one in 2020 against Japanese video game maker Capcom Co, police said.

Who knew computer gaming would be critical infrastructure?

Reading some other accounts of the take down officials in several countries were able to confiscate laptops that undoubtedly will provide intel leading to further arrests. In addition law enforcement very likely has their private keys that will make efforts to revive their operations difficult to say the least.

Why would ransomware target regular people? Regular people don't have that much money. That's wasted effort for not a lot of payout

They would target institutions that they can ransom for a lot of money. And if it's government, that's taxpayer money
