Railway company employee arrested for voyeurism at train station

A male employee for the Metropolitan Intercity Railway Co (MIR) that operates the Tsukuba Express line between Akihabara Station in Tokyo and Tsukuba Station in Ibaraki Prefecture has been arrested on suspicion of violating Chiba Prefecture’s public nuisance ordinance on camera voyeurism.

Police said 43-year-old man, who lives in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, is accused of taking upskirt film of a high school girl on an escalator at Funabashi-Hoten Station at around 1:35 p.m. on March 16, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the man, whose name hasn’t been released, rode just behind the girl on the escalator and filmed up her skirt with his smartphone. A station attendant saw what he was doing and notified police.

Police said the man has admitted to the allegation and police are questioning him about whether he has committed similar acts.

I see this happen every day here in Japan and I always call the police too.

You call the police every day? About this? Man, I must live a sheltered life as I don't see behaviour like that every day of the week.

uppies seem to be popular over here, I wonder why?

Because skirts are more common than in a lot of other countries, especially since it's a mandated part of school uniforms. More skirts - more opportunities for perverts to film up skirts - more perverts get caught.

And before someone inevitably blames me of "victim blaming"... no, I'm no saying girls and women should stop wearing skirts, or that it's their fault. Obviously, the pervs are in the wrong, and when caught punish them according to whatever the law dictates. Just stating one reason why it might be a more common occurrence in Japan.

Why isnt the sicko scum named? Bye bye to your job, pervert.

Doubtful. Usually, they just get reprimanded.

Arresting obviously isn't enough. They need to be named and shamed. Why is this guy being protected like a minor?

You must be new here. Old Japanese men will protect other Japanese men. Most cases like this are dismissed and the offended receive a light slap on the wrist. Most likely won't even be fired from his job.

Monkey SEE (i.e. porn) Monkey DO...legitimized by the judicial system not really coming down on the perps. Maybe because the people producing the porn and the people governing the country are not so far apart.

What is wrong with Asia in general in regards to this stuff? Can’t these guys just watch porn like normal people? Or maybe it’s the kicks and thrills of being caught?

It is a thing beyond Japan. Google this and add UK or US and you get tons of reports. Never understood why it is at all a thing, but.....

It's not immediately clear from this article, but Funabashi-Hoten station is not on the Tsukuba Express line, which makes it seem like the suspect was doing an off-the-clock incident.

Anyways, any adult should know better, and a railway company employee should be even more aware. Tsukuba Express Akihabara station in particular is full of warning posters for stuff like this. Really unacceptable

He was pulling a stupid prank like a 5th grade kid. Stupid!

Non-consensual or sneak/nuisance photography is probably the charge.

(Not sure if you can be arrested for simple voyeurism on its own.)

Yeah, it is caused by manga and anime and porn. That's a keen sociological & psychological analysis. Might as well toss in some other clichés. Uppies? That's quaint verbiage, for a manner of sexual assault of a young woman.

Such people should have their full name and face published. And then few public cheek slaps by the victim or police.

If they have a need, they have ton of material on the internet. Anything they can dream of. If they need to do it in the public, then they should face the consequences. The justice should not listen to their "I was drunk" or "I was stressed, because of XYZ" or "I had an argument with my wife the day before".

And since it is so ubiquitous in porn, manga, etc., one wonders why even take the chance. Just buy some porn, or go to one of the many free sights.

They get inspired by the porn to experience the 'kick' firsthand, then want to share with their community by uploading, thereby encouraging others to get involved.

Ubiquitous porn of the same genre, it's even in the anime and manga.

Bingo.

The fact that you have a nickname for them would concern me more.

Agree. Suggests it's a thing beyond Japan.
