Disgusting result, sets the wrong precedent that if your child dies because you neglected them it is not your fault? RIP little boy.

Most kids that die from SIDS die in their sleep. It's more likely this kid fretted himself to death for being left alone for such a long period of time.

I do agree with the suspended sentence because of the other kid. Hopefully, both the mother and father will be closely monitored and reciebe counseling so it doesn't happen again.

suspended because he has admitted to the charge and vowed to reform his behavior.

I would added "and agreed to a vasectomy", but no one asked me

... and his teenage wife at the time.

OK...

If Mitsuhiro Abe had been the biological father of the two kids, he wouldn’t have left them alone that long.

So the mother was a minor at the time? Does that mean under 20 or the new 18?

At best it puts her a mother at 16...

Suspended sentence for letting a child die? if there are no attenuating circumstances then why did the Judge did not sentence to the full prison time? the whole thing makes no sense.

Yikes.

Get that remaining two year kid old out of that house already.

If Mitsuhiro Abe had been the biological father of the two kids, he wouldn’t have left them alone that long.

Doubt it would have mattered, deadbeat wouldn’t have cared either way.

Great news for the dirty scum that do this or plan to do this. Leave the baby at home all day and night, dies then only gets a slap on the wrist. Perhaps for a country that is pushing folks to have children due to population decline, you would expect for them to treat children like treasure and punish those that cause the death of children to the fullest extent of the law. Yet child killers still get light sentences. Why?

WTH is with the suspended sentences in this country? Even the sentences before suspension are generally to light for the crimes committed.

When I read the headline I thought, "Geez... another suspended sentence in the land that loves them," and then thought that at least all he did was leave the kids unattended, bad as that was, and nothing had happened as a result. I had no idea one kid had died. Now the suspended sentence seems like an absolute joke. People on here often point out how little Japan values the life of its children and this 100% concrete proof. A guy left children to die (one survived, but you know what I mean) so that he could go and gamble. But, because he simply said sorry, all is forgiven by the sad excuse for a judge. Well done, Japan. Well done.

he went to a pachinko parlor

NK missile funding disease that needs to be erradicated from Japan.

In my first years in Japan I lived in a small capital with half a million people. Beautiful greenery and landscapes everywhere. There was nothing more depressing than waking up on a beautiful sunday, bike your way to a crystal clear river and see 30-40 people lining up outside these parlors by 9am. Go to work on the next day and see someone working they got 50.000yen after wasting their entire sunday in one of these places. Just sad but to each its own.

Mitsuhiro Abe should be sentenced to prison and left alone for 23 / 24 hours for many years. His children could be adopted by couples who will give them 24 / 24 love.

In the coming years, if something should happen to the other child, the people who recommended this suspended sentence should have their licenses revoked. As others have stated, there are other more deserving couples who would give this child a whole and happy life.

This pachinko thing is all too common. Examples need to be made.

Prosecutors subsequently indicted Abe merely for child abandonment, finding no direct link between his action and the infant's death.

WTF, your child's life is meaningless then.

If Mitsuhiro Abe had been the biological father of the two kids, he wouldn’t have left them alone that long.

Don't be so sure, addicts do all kinds of messed up things. Lots of people don't even like their kids, a recipe for your kids not liking you back.

Sad state of affairs but worse still was the slap on the wrist this deadbeat got.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I don’t understand that at all. Even the pachinko addicted can now buy a nearly exact simulation software copy of the most popular pachinko machines for their smartphone or bigger tablet screen for a one-time price of 1.600¥ or so. Staying at home while caring about the babies and playing pachinko like crazy all the time is possible, and you can’t even lose money more than that simulator price or have to drive around or line up anywhere.

So many things wrong with their relationship..

Not his kids, not his problem.

Why did I read this on a warm, sunny bright day. There is a pachinko next to my supermarket, I can’t now stop myself from looking suspiciously at the customers. This is not the first time.

Prosecutors subsequently indicted Abe merely for child abandonment, finding no direct link between his action and the infant's death.

In other words, prosecutors couldn't ensure 100% victory, so they went the easy route that wouldn't leave a blemish on their record.

If he had been the biological father, he'd been sleeping with a minor

@Mirai Hayashi Correct, yes he married the mother, yes she was under age I would guess less that 13-18. He was not the father but most people place the responsibility on him. I could agree with the judges decision after all he did take the children's welfare into consideration for one he Abe was monitoring the infants through a remotely controlled camera placed in the home. People tend to forget children dies everyday from SIDS and the parents are in the next room. This was just an unfortunate accident. Question since the "WIFE" was a teenager should he be responsible for her too had she died? Or her parents who was not in the picture like the biological father?

So many things wrong with their relationship..

These pachinko stores are the cancer of this nation. Way too many gambling addicts over the years.
