Sorry but the translation leave a bit to be desired. He knows and admits killing them but did not intend to, that's murder. He isnt denying murder, he is denying intent.

Again, this was a repugnant crime and he should face the punishment if the state can probe beyond a reasonable doubt he did it.

He should have kept his mouth shut, from a legal standpoint. What an idiot.

Intent, abduction, drugged, stabbed, suffocation, abandoned.

And his defense team using that excuse? They should be disbarred and never allowed to practice law ever again! Disgusting people!

This loony knew exactly what he was doing from the get-go!

This is not how the justice system works regarding lawyers and clients. It's the lawyers' job to advance any defense they deem reasonable and that may mitigate their client's punishment. This does not mean the lawyers endorse the client's actions.

Yamada's defense team admitted that the defendant applied pressure to the girl's neck

They call that 'strangling' Kyodo. Who decided a direct translation would be a good way to report this story?

He knows and admits killing them but did not intend to, that's murder. He isnt denying murder, he is denying intent.

Then legally, it's not murder, it's manslaughter (although they call it something else in Japan, I can't recall what right now).

No, they should be praised for doing a dirty job no one wants to do, in order to provide a proper legal system in which defendants not only have the right to a free trial, but a trial that is required to prove beyond a doubt that the person is guilty. Lawyers for people like this often know that regardless of their actions, their clients will be found guilty, and when said defendant is a piece of scum like this, it often weighs hard on these lawyers.

They are people doing the dirty work for our society, just like the police, firefighters, hospital workers, all.

Deriding these people is what is disgusting. You should thank them for ensuring you can live in a society where you aren't disappeared without notice.

Laughable. Especially given the autopsy facts that found a sleeping drug in their bodies. Their intentional ignorance is disgusting, but then I wouldn't expect you of all people to understand that.

None of the defendant's actions are the fault of the defense lawyers. You clearly want to live in an authoritarian society in which the justice system is a sham.

The defense lawyers are presenting defenses, not being intentionally ignorant.

On the death of Ryoto Hoshino, 12, Yamada also said he did not intend to kill him

Didn’t mean to kill him? You stabbed him more than 30 times you tragic POS! You killed two kids for no other reason than self-satisfaction. Send this scum to hell!

He'll be convicted of kidnapping, murder and more. The prosecution has a very strong case: dna, security camera footage and his (partial) confession. What's disturbing to me is that he has a long history of hurting children. From an earlier article:

Yamada served time for robbing and confining a total of seven junior high school male students in 2002.

How can a guy like that be free to commit more crimes? And where there is one, there are others. With kids being so trusting in Japan, this case was really terrifying for parents.

I remembered the parents getting criticism for letting their children roam at all hours of the night. I wonder how much backlash they faced.

They tried to say the boy died due to "a health problem", thus ignoring facts like the sleep drug, stab wounds, etc. If that's not "being intentionally ignorant" then I don't know what is. And what an insult to the victims and their families!

Wow...what a pi$$ poor manipulation of language....the man committed murder plain and simple and has admitted to such.

@Educatir60 - I seem to remember that the girl was stabbed but not the boy. Do you have a link for this info?

The girl was was drugged and strangled in the back of the car. The boy was stabbed more than 30 times and his body dumped in he forest. I’m pretty sure you have the capabilities to look it up yourself. You are the Educator, aren’t you?

You are making a huge assumption that the defense is ignoring the facts. It's ridiculous to assert this.

How so? The evidence is clear, and they tried to brush it aside as if it wasn't needed! Like I said, the only thing ridiculous here is the absurdity by yourself and a few select others, that they're doing us all a favour!

Sorry but the translation leave a bit to be desired. He knows and admits killing them but did not intend to, that's murder. He isnt denying murder, he is denying intent.

Technically speaking intent is an element of murder. If you kill someone without intending to do so (such as by accident) it is manslaughter. So the translation is accurate, though I agree it is a bit clumsy.

Lawyers have a duty to present the best defence possible, just as the lawyers on the other side have the duty to prosecute the case to the best of their abilities. It is how the system is supposed to work, blaming the individual lawyers because their client is a monster isn't at all fair.

@Moderator - The girl was stabbed, not the boy.

Oh, well. 50% chance of getting that one right. However, it really doesn't matter, does it? The point is, this murderous POS needs to go to hell for what he did to these innocent kids. Give the parents an hour or so alone with him first though.

I saw this piece of human excrement on TV just now. Hope he hangs.
