His death some seven hours after leaving hospital could not be considered natural, the court said, ruling he was killed.

Why is not natural, it does happen on daily basis, he already 77 anyway.

@sakurasuki

Because they booked the crematorium BEFORE he died. Somewhat suspicious...

Usually, you have to present a death certificate to the crematorium.

The judge said that she contacted a crematorium ahead of time at her son's instruction, and convinced the hospital in central Japan's Nagano Prefecture to discharge her husband based on false information.

This sounds like premeditated murder there. 1st degree, indeed. 11 years is a joke.

Euthanasia is not legally recognized in Japan.

Thanks to the crimes of Naoki Yamamoto and Yoshikazu Okubo the efforts of countless ethical doctors and activists to give options to terminal patients went down the drain.

So no evidence and guilty by default. Nothing has changed.

guilty of killing her 77-year-old husband Yasushi at an apartment in Tokyo by unknown means

How can you convict someone of murder, if you can't even prove the deceased was murdered???

the fact that the victim was in the hospital (i.e. not bothering the wife or son or son's colleague) makes me wonder what their motivation was. There is no mention of an insurance payoff.

Not enough information given in the article in order to pass judgement. If premeditated murder is proven though, it should be life in prison with no possibility of parole.
