A member of Japan’s riot police was arrested Saturday for stealing money from a passenger’s wallet on the Tokyo subway, police said Sunday.
According to police, Masato Kitahara, 26, allegedly stole 4,000 yen from the purse of a woman sitting next to him on a Tozai line train, heading to Nakano Station, around 6 a.m. on Saturday. The woman, 19, who was asleep at the time of the crime, noticed that her purse was out of her bag when she woke up, and saw money sticking out of the pocket of Kitahara, who was sitting nearby.
The woman notified the station’s police. Kitahara admitted to the charge, police said.
“If the charges are correct, we must treat this case with exceptional strictness,” a police spokesman said.

Good grief! Doesn't one have to jump hurdles to become a policeman? Geez... So much for hiring a good person from a "good" family. My friend told me his friend wanted to marry his girlfriend but her brother who is a cop told her if she did that he would never advance in his career plus the family would beat the crap out of her and disown her. Also why wasn't Kitahara smart enough to tuck the money out of sight?!

What's "...exceptional strictness"? A good talking to and back to business as usual?

Heck - at least he didn't take upskirt photos of her - not bad for a J-cop on a train, eh?!
Seriously, this bloke must be no rocket scientist - being a "riot policeman" he is essentially a hired thug I guess that is trained to rush at people swinging sticks and shields, so the lack of thinking explains the wads of (allegedly) stolen cash hanging out of his pockets! LOL

So much for protect and serve.
I think we might have different priority sets.

Maybe he was on the way home from Friday night on the town. Other than being intoxicated, why would somebody in his position do that?
