Police said Monday that a rock was thrown through the glass door of a koban in Chiba early Monday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. at a two-story koban in Hanamigawa Ward. TBS reported that two policemen were assigned to the koban.

At the time of the incident, one officer was out investigating a noise complaint in the neighborhood, while the other was having a nap on the second floor.

"...while the other was having a nap on the second floor."

Either Im Psychic,or Ive been in Japan so long. I knew this story was going to have something like this as a closing line as soon as I saw the headline.

There are many types of Kobans in Japan. Some are "residential" kobans, where the officer lives upstairs and conducts business downstairs. The officer updstairs is off duty and they switch shifts.

This leads me to conclude that "People who work in glass koban shouldn't throw stones."

and... JT ...calls this news!? Hilarious.

A slow news day is a good news day. Would it be news if it happened to you? I don't see the humor in this.

If the second cop was konking Zs, was he the one that "reported" it at 2:45?

Can't believe this is news. You'd think this would struggle to make the local news in a small village.

On a trip to Japan 20 years ago: Japanese police are very helpful, I asked for a photo of motorcycle cops in front of Imperial Villa, they moved the bikes to get the best shot! I asked where to change currency, the policeman took me by the hand and led me to the bank, I felt like a lost child! Meanwhile, back in NYC my tourist friend asks a cop for directions, he's told to buy a f-ing map!

Prolly some drunk guy on his way home.

Really don't see why the other police officer should have been taking a nap if his partner was out of the koban.

Why don't Kobans at least have cameras around the Koban? Plenty of times we read about stuff like this. Or someone breaking in or out of a Koban.

well, it's always "important" to know that the j-cops are sleeping at a koban.

Maybe the stone-thrower was simply doing a service to the community by waking the cop up!

I don't know why everyone is LOLing at the other cop sleeping. They probably were on shifts, and it was his sleep time.

The cops are inept enough in this country, at least attack something worthwhile.

Just some kids having fun, as Crocodile Dundee would say.

I'm often napping at 2:45am myself.

It almost woke them up.

Why is this news? Why weren't the cops on patrol together?
-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Great. Give them something to do.

Check the neighbours, maybe the cop on the second floor was snoring too loud.

One cop visits "friend" other cop resting imagining "friend" local frustration about noise, rock through window...excuses fly? Someone attacked the tree house with a rock. It's time these people were stopped Chiba needs a 24 hour riot squad with powers of instant arrest, rocks need to be registered and properly secured. Too many times are embarrassing incidents reported involving sleeping apathetic police. It's the rocks fault it's a danger to harmony and the unique culture of Japan.

wow that looks really bad for the cops there if one is asleep on the job :/

"At the time of the incident, one officer was out investigating a noise complaint in the neighborhood, while the other was having a nap on the second floor."

Classic. And one wonders why a rock might be thrown through a koban door. And let me guess, the 'noise complaint' was some neighbourhood issue and had nothing at all to do with the bosozoku likely riding right around said koban?

Taking a nap? Some fine police work there!
