Paddington Bear is the main character in a children's book series. I remember them fondly as a kid. A couple movies based on him were made, and the second one (came out a year or two ago) is really really GOOD.

The team were welcomed home as heroes. Nothing in the media or their official Twitter feed even mentions this, though there are some locals posting replies criticizing them for their behavior within the feed.

Worse than the incident itself, it's rather shameful how the Uruguay team has failed to even apologize, offer to pay for damages or express any contrition or even acknowledge the incident. Drunkenness cold be an excuse for the damage, but what is their excuse for walking away from any responsibility for their actions?

What person in their right mind would even think to minimize what these players did, or disagree they should be harshly punished. Alcohol is absolutely no excuse for bad actions anywhere

A bar near me is known for violence and assaults on both men and women but it never makes the news due to the victims and assailants being natives...

If the guy smashing the bar is worried about costs, he should have asked the price before he started smashing.

Which is exactly what Kiefer Sutherland did when drunk at a London hotel and destroyed a Christmas tree. He asked, “how much is that tree? I don’t like it, it needs to go.” When the hotel staff informed him of the price, he dive-tackled the tree while yelling, “I love this place.”

The place had to close for a couple nights and lost that business, the owner and the staff had to take their time to deal with it, there was the general trouble caused... all this on top of repair costs.

If the club decides to press charges for damages, the court will determine the amount to be compensated based on an insurance company’s assessment and the sale price of the item/s damaged. Rich or poor, foreign or not, the prices are generally the same.

So a bit of camaraderie gets a little out of hand, it is seen in Japan as crime of the century.

They have apologised, and I am sure that the correct recompense will be given to the bar. When I say correct recompense, that which would be the norm in Japan and not the Foreign Inflationary Recompense.

Then local Japanese will start to think foreigners are rude, without have any clue which country they are coming from.

Since this team are guest, especially to show Japan being nice host for Olympic 2020. So they'll let go this one.

This all followed a "drinking session" which happened to follow a "rugby session". So, I'm not all that surprised, but you wouldn't expect this type of behavior from the Japan team or the All Blacks. Much more professional.

I wouldn't 'expect' it from Japan and/or the AB (and most other NT btw) but i wouldnt be 'that' surprised either (look at what happened with the crusaders during their SA tour a few months ago, NH/SR clubs on tours are no stranger to pub fights/ shenanigans either, same with NT remember Tindall, Bastareaud !? ;)

Rowdy 'third-half' / mad Monday celebrations etc may not be as common as they used to be, they're still part of the game especially in the amateur ranks.

The Uruguayan federation should obviously pay for the damage and deal with it internally (fine/ban the players involved, up to them).

Unforgivable. They played badly and were angry, but no need to take it out on a local business in Kumamoto by going on a rampage. Summon the Uruguay Ambassador, make them pay for all damages.

On TV they showed ruined sound equipment, broken windows and holes punched in walls, adding up to about 4 million JPY in damage.
