I hope the sea cucumber won't spoil while the dispute is being worked out.

A boat with two Japanese and two Russian nationals on board

That should've been a non-issue. Methinks someone didn't pay protection money to the local authorities and organized crime groups

REMzzz, you are absolutely correct. The JP fishermen says that the border guards are demanding more.

Title says 'seized Japanese boat' but it says in the article that they don't know what country the boat belongs to. Which is true?

The vessel was carrying sea cucumbers

lol precious cargo indeed.

Sea cucumbers are vile. Healthy, but vile. Anyway, this will be the usual short detainment, and longer detainment of boat and possibly captain before the Japanese are let go. No telling what will happen to the Russian nationals.

No telling what will happen to the Russian nationals.

They might have a "tax evasion" case against them if they don't come up with the money soon. I'm dead serious. Pay or go to jail

Good for Russia for seizing scummy Japanese boat that was trespassing.

Vg866. Perhaps you missed the part where it said they don't know the nationality of the boat and that there were Russians on board as well.

Tbh you only need to go skinny dipping off Hokkaido and you'd be near the southern most of the Kuril Islands.

Hey Ishihara! Your money is needed! C'mon, old timer, fork it out!

The title is misleading / inaccurate. It should be: "Report: Russia Seizes 2 Japanese near Disputed Islands."

This is an AFP article. "Shocker" that they can't get their title to match their article. /sarcasm

If allowed here is some pertinent info on the Japan-Russian Kuriles issue:

Maybe Ishihara could buy the islands on behalf of Tokyo. That would solve the problem.
