showchinmono: You haven't answered my question at why you're upset he was caught and will be punished.

Showchinmono: "So you are glad. Congratulation"

I am glad he was caught and will be punished, and the people he held captive will be freed, yes. Aren't you? What a bizarre comment to make.

I am also glad that he was caught and assumedly be held and imprisoned in Thailand. In SK, for example, he might get a FAR lesser sentence for holding Japanese captive, and might even by some ultra-crazies be hailed as a hero. So, I'm glad, as I said, he was caught there. Again, aren't you?

It's either the first 2 victims were halfwit cowards or scheming swindlers pretending to be idiots.

Why on Earth is David Varnes' perfectly logical comment above voted down?!?! There is so much that doesn't sound right in this story. I'm thinking inside job. So many alarm bells.

I can totally understand their fright. Thailand can be a haven for underworld figures and plenty of South Korean and Japanese mafia types have sought refuge there.

Something in the timeline doesn't sit right with me, and makes me doubt the veracity of this story.

So he convinces the girl to come to Bangkok in September, at which time he forces her to swindle her parents out of 2 million yen.

Upon which point, the 21 year old brother is then convinced to come to Bangkok on a 'money making scheme' in October.

After milking his acquaintances out of 8 million yen, they then REPEATED THE SAME THING with another friend in January, milking 800,000 yen before this guy's mom called the cops.

EVEN THOUGH THE GIRL 'ESCAPED' IN NOVEMBER, THE FRIEND WAS STILL CONVINCED TO GO TO THAILAND IN JANUARY ON THE SAME 'SCHEME?'

I am highly suspect. First off, that nobody in the Bangkok embassy would have said anything to Thai authorities or that the Thai authorities would let it continue with the international attention this would gather.

Then, that the girl, who's returned to Japan by this point, somehow allowed her brother's friend to get caught by the same scheme?

Methinks there's more to this than meets the eye, and that the scheme involves the victims as much as the people sending money until one smart Mama said enough to this junk and put a stop to it.

Glad he was caught in Thailand. He will NOT like the shoe being on the other foot in that country.

1 year old kid!??

well maybe in Japanese years but if he is traveling to Thailand to make money...never mind...poor KID...

Yes. And I see these kids all over the world. 20 years ago, it was different. These kids would have stayed home, and would never have considered leaving their own country. Now they jump on a plane and head off to places with only a vague awareness that they are in another country with different laws, customs, dangers, etc.

To be fair... a 21 year old kid who probably had a typical sheltered upbringing in Japan and little exposure to the uglier side of the real world vs an obvious thug. A lot of people that age in Japan are still just kids in the sense that they can do little for themselves. Blame it on the parents and the education system that takes away free will and makes them passive.

Is this the most twisted con thing I have ever seen or what?

Imagine the time and energy needed to run a con like this? This is right out of Blacklist I tell ya.

You can not make this stuff up.

 Head shaking in disbelief honto.

The Japanese man should have known better than to travel to Thailand without bringing a spine and at least a little bit of testosterone in his system.

I am not sure how i should feel about this. So only because the victim mother came to the rescue, before such a man is stop. To be allow to be backmail, abused and confined. As a man he is afraid and feel unsafe. The suspect must be one hell of a scary person or is expert in torture to make them that obedient. It just feel wrong to able to milk that much money from them that easily. At least struggle a little.
