A safe that was stolen from a precious metal dealer's store in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward was left on the street after the thieves were unable to open it, police said.

According to police, the safe was stolen from the store in Jingumae, near JR Harajuku Station, sometime before 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Fuji TV reported. A security guard alerted police after noticing the break-in.

The safe, which weighs about 100 kilograms, was found unopened in an alley beside the store. Police said the contents had not been removed.

Police said the thieves broke into the store through a back door and are analyzing street surveillance camera footage to try and identify a car that was parked outside the store around the time of the theft.

Do you think there would be enough time to open the same outside on the street before hoping on your bicycles? Don't quit your day job, please.

Any finger prints? Any suspects?

Hard to believe someone foolish enough to have missed "The Italian Job" would attempt this.
