A 37-year-old police detective was arrested for attempted theft on Sunday, after he allegedly tried to steal a woman’s underwear from a room aboard the Twilight Express, a sleeper train traveling from Sapporo to Osaka.
Keisuke Noda, an assistant inspector at Omiya police station in Saitama Prefecture, is accused of entering a staff room aboard the overnight express just before 6 a.m. Sunday, in which a female employee was sleeping. The woman woke up to find Noda going through her luggage and holding a pair of her panties. She called out to him, and he fled the room, but she chased after him. Noda was handed over to police when the train stopped at JR Toyama station.
Noda initially told police in Toyama that he was a part-time employee at a convenience store, but his identity was confirmed from his driving license and a call to his family. Noda had taken holiday leave from Sept 5 to 8, and was traveling by himself. He has admitted to the allegations.l© News reports
